Journal ArticleDOI
Urban greenness and physical activity in a national survey of Canadians.
TL;DR: It is found that participants who resided in the highest quartile of greenness were more likely to participate in leisure-time physical activity when compared to those in the lowest quartile, and positive associations were observed between greenness and physical activity in all income groupings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Automobile traffic around the home and attained body mass index: a longitudinal cohort study of children aged 10-18 years.
Michael Jerrett,Rob McConnell,C C Roger Chang,Jennifer Wolch,Kim D. Reynolds,Frederick Lurmann,Frank D. Gilliland,Kiros Berhane +7 more
TL;DR: Traffic is a pervasive exposure in most cities, and the results identify traffic as a major risk factor for the development of obesity in children.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cyclist route choice, traffic-related air pollution, and lung function: a scripted exposure study
Sarah Jarjour,Michael Jerrett,Dane Westerdahl,Audrey de Nazelle,Cooper Hanning,Laura Daly,Jonah Lipsitt,John R. Balmes,John R. Balmes +8 more
TL;DR: The lung function results indicate that elevated pollutant exposure may not have acute negative effects on healthy cyclists, but further research is necessary to determine long-term effects on a more diverse population.
Journal ArticleDOI
A class of non-linear exposure-response models suitable for health impact assessment applicable to large cohort studies of ambient air pollution
Masoud M. Nasari,Mieczyslaw Szyszkowicz,Hong Chen,Dan L. Crouse,Michelle C. Turner,Michael Jerrett,C. Arden Pope,Bryan Hubbell,Neal Fann,Aaron Cohen,Susan M. Gapstur,W. Ryan Diver,David M. Stieb,Mohammad H. Forouzanfar,Sun-Young Kim,Casey Olives,Daniel Krewski,Richard T. Burnett +17 more
TL;DR: This paper proposes a new class of variable coefficient risk functions capable of capturing a variety of potentially non-linear associations which are suitable for health impact assessment and estimates the number of deaths attributable to changes in fine particulate matter concentrations over the 2000 to 2010 time period.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variability in and agreement between modeled and personal continuously measured black carbon levels using novel smartphone and sensor technologies.
Mark J. Nieuwenhuijsen,David Donaire-Gonzalez,Ioar Rivas,Montserrat de Castro,Marta Cirach,Gerard Hoek,Edmund Seto,Michael Jerrett,Michael Jerrett,Jordi Sunyer +9 more
TL;DR: Novel technologies, such as smartphones and sensors, provide insights in personal exposure to air pollution, including black carbon levels, which vary substantially during the day.
