The infant nasopharyngeal microbiome impacts severity of lower respiratory infection and risk of asthma development
Shu Mei Teo,Danny Mok,Kym Pham,Merci Kusel,Michael Serralha,Niamh M. Troy,Barbara J. Holt,Belinda J. Hales,Michael L. Walker,Elysia M. Hollams,Yury A. Bochkov,Kristine Grindle,Sebastian L. Johnston,James E. Gern,Peter D. Sly,Patrick G. Holt,Kathryn E. Holt,Michael Inouye +17 more
TL;DR: The nasopharynx is a reservoir for microbes associated with acute respiratory infections (ARIs) and targeting pathogenic bacteria within the NP microbiome could represent a prophylactic approach to asthma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elucidation of pathways driving asthma pathogenesis: development of a systems-level analytic strategy.
Michael L. Walker,Kathryn E. Holt,Kathryn E. Holt,Gary P. Anderson,Shu Mei Teo,Peter D. Sly,Patrick G. Holt,Patrick G. Holt,Michael Inouye,Michael Inouye +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that deeply phenotyped cohort studies combined with sophisticated network models will be required to derive the next generation of biological and clinical insights in asthma pathogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ten Simple Rules for a Bioinformatics Journal Club.
Andrew Lonsdale,Jocelyn Sietsma Penington,Timothy Rice,Michael L. Walker,Harriet Dashnow,Harriet Dashnow +5 more
TL;DR: An informal journal club is offered, designed to bring together a diversity of backgrounds and career stages to discuss bioinformatics while building a network of like-minded peers, applicable to developing informal journal clubs of all disciplines.

The infant airway microbiome in health and disease impacts later asthma development
Shu Mei Teo,Danny Mok,Kym Pham,Merci Kusel,Michael Serralha,Niamh M. Troy,Barbara J. Holt,Belinda J. Hales,Michael L. Walker,Elysia M. Hollams,Yury A. Bochkov,Kristine Grindle,Sebastian L. Johnston,James E. Gern,Peter D. Sly,Patrick G. Holt,Kathryn E. Holt,Michael Inouye +17 more
TL;DR: The data identify the NP microbiome as a determinant for infection spread to the lower airways, severity of accompanying inflammatory symptoms, and risk for future asthma development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cho-Duan-Ge decomposition of QCD in the constraintless Clairaut-type formalism
Michael L. Walker,Steven Duplij +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors apply the constraintless Clairaut-type formalism to the Cho-Duan-Ge decomposition in $SU(2)$ QCD and find nontrivial corrections to the physical equations of motion and that the contribution of the topological degrees of freedom is qualitatively different from that found by treating the monopole potential as though it were dynamic.
