Journal ArticleDOI

Polymeric optical waveguides for optical interconnections

TL;DR: In this article, a 45° mirror was formed in the waveguide by using a 90° V-shaped diamond blade, and the mirror loss was 0.3 dB/cm at 0.83 μm using deuterated polymethylmethacrylate for the core and UV-cured resin for the cladding.

Optical deflector, process for producing the same, and blade for use in production of optical deflector

TL;DR: In this article, an optical waveguide of an optical deflector comprising a planar or an optical fiber type optical waveguide is cut while perpendicularly pressing a blade having a blade tip with an angle of inclination against the optical wave-guide at a desired location thereof to form an oblique end face serviceable as an OE mirror.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polymeric optical waveguide films with 45° mirrors formed with a 90° V-shaped diamond blade

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for forming high quality 45/spl deg/ mirrors in polymeric waveguides was described, and the mirror losses were as low as 0.1 dB for the single mode and 0.3 dB for multimode waveguide.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low-loss polymeric optical waveguides with high thermal stability

TL;DR: In this article, the propagation loss of the waveguides is measured and found to be less than 0.1 dB/cm at 1.31 µm and less than 1.5 dB/m at 0.55 µm.
Patent

Optical path changing element, manufacture thereof and blade for manufacturing the optical path changing element

TL;DR: In this article, a V groove 12a having tilt end faces 6, 6 is formed on a planar optical waveguide by using a diamond blade 40 having a machined point of blade of about 90 degrees.
