The analog circuit design is very often focused on the design of frequency filters employing different types of active elements. In this paper we present the universal voltage conveyor that is used for the design of the KHN-equivalent filters working in the voltage-mode. Auxiliary voltage inputs of the active elements are used to reduce the number of floating admittances in the structure. Both proposed structures are easily cascadable since the input and output impedances are in theory infinitely high and zero, respectively. The behavior of the filters has been verified through PSpice simulations and furthermore by experimental measurements.

KHN-equivalent voltage-mode filters using universal voltage conveyors

This paper presents a low-voltage low-power high-speed superregenerative receiver operating in the 2.4-GHz industrial-scientific-medical band. The receiver uses an architecture in which, thanks to the presence of a phase-locked loop, the quench oscillator is operated synchronously with the received data at a quench frequency equal to the data rate. This mode of operation has several benefits. Firstly, the traditional problem of poor selectivity in this type of receiver is to a large extent overcome. Secondly, considerably higher data rates can be achieved than with classical receivers. Thirdly, the bit envelope can be matched to the superregenerative oscillator, which improves sensitivity. The receiver includes an RF front end optimized to support high quench frequencies at low supply voltages, responding to todays increasing demand for high speed and low power consumption. The prototype implemented is very simple and achieves a data rate of 11 Mb/s with a current consumption of 1.75 mA at a supply voltage of 1.2 V - an excellent tradeoff between cost, performance, and power consumption.

A 260-mW Ku-Band FMCW Transceiver for Synthetic Aperture Radar Sensor With 1.48-GHz Bandwidth in 65-nm CMOS Technology

An analog baseband chain for a multistandard (Bluetooth, WCDMA/UMTS, and WLAN) reconfigurable receiver in a 0.13 mum CMOS occupying 1.65 mm2 is presented. The circuit consists of an open-loop programmable-gain amplifier (PGA1), an active-Gm-RC low-pass filter (LPF), and a closed-loop programmable-gain amplifier (PGA2). The chain gain can be programmed in the range -6 divide 68 dB, while the input-referred noise (IRN) is 5 nV/radicHz. A dynamic range (DR) larger than 82 dB is achieved for a 1% total harmonic distortion (THD). The current consumption is minimized and adjusted for the different operation conditions, down to 11 mA for the full chain.

A CMOS fully integrated 12th-order bandpass filter for low interemdiate frequency Bluetooth receivers is presented. The design is optimized to meet the selectivity and dynamic range requirements of Bluetooth while consuming relatively low power. The filter is based on unity gain cells and utilizes linearized MOSFET resistors for tuning. It exhibits a bandwidth of 1 MHz and a programmable center frequency range of 2 to 4 MHz. Experimental results obtained from a standard 0.5-mum CMOS chip show that the filter exhibits an in-band dynamic range of 53.3 dB at gain of 0 dB, and 52 dB at gain of 15 dB, while consuming a total current of 1.32 mA. Attenuations of more than 10, 38, and 55 dB, are achieved for blockers one, two, and three, respectively

A CMOS bandpass filter for low-IF bluetooth receivers

This study introduces the use of arithmetic and logical hybrid controllers between proportional–integrative–derivative (PID) controllers and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for voltage regulation with buck-type DC–DC converters and proposes the novel product hybrid controller. The product hybrid controller combines the advantages of a PID controller and ANFIS controller to obtain an improved response and light and heavy load efficiency for the buck converter. PIDs are known for their good response and robustness but suffer due to non-optimal tuning for non-linear systems. ANFISs, on the other hand, excel in varying and abnormal conditions. ANFIS controllers also can improve and adapt their response to the current load or inputs with time. Simulation results are presented and analysed for all the controllers to validate the controller designs. The controllers are also verified experimentally. It is observed that the hybrid controllers provide enhanced tracking and response capabilities in comparison to classical PID controllers, with the novel product hybrid improving on the steady-state error, peak efficiency, and overall light and load operation.

Novel product ANFIS-PID hybrid controller for buck converters

Design of a CMOS 18th-order IF (intermediate frequency) bandpass filter for integrated low-IF Bluetooth receivers is presented. The centre frequency and bandwidth of the filter are 3 and 1 MHz, respectively. The proposed filter is based on unity gain fully differential voltage buffers and provides efficient, low power and a small area design solution. The filter, including its automatic tuning circuit, occupies an area of 0.6 mm2 in a standard 0.5 µm-CMOS chip. Experimental results show that the filter satisfies the selectivity and dynamic range requirements of Bluetooth while operating from a total supply current of 0.9 mA.

An 8th-order fully electronically programmable complex filter based on current amplifiers for multistandard mobile TV applications is presented. Its center frequency, pole frequency, and gain are electronically programmable to accommodate both Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) and Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB). The proposed solution avoids employing capacitor and resistor arrays leading to a compact design (0.51 $\mathrm{mm}^{2}$ ). It adopts minimum number of amplifiers for maintaining relatively low power consumption (2.55 mW). The experimental results obtained from a 0.18- $\mu $ m digital CMOS process show that the proposed design achieves spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of better than 65 dB and image rejection ratios of more than 38 dB.
