Circulating miRNAs 21 and 221 as biomarkers for early diagnosis of prostate cancer
TL;DR: This study showed that serum miRNAs 21 and 221 expression profiling tests may be used as specific noninvasive molecular biomarkers for prostate cancer diagnosis due to their higher sensitivity and specificity with a high negative predictive value leading to a decrease in the biopsies taken for patients with elevated serum PSA values.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extracellular miR-145, miR-223 and miR-326 expression signature allow for differential diagnosis of immune-mediated neuroinflammatory diseases
Wessam E. Sharaf-Eldin,Nirmeen A. Kishk,Yehia Z. Gad,Heba A. Hassan,Mohamed A. M. Ali,Maha S. Zaki,Mohamed R. Mohamed,Mona L. Essawi +7 more
TL;DR: Specific circulating miRNAs expression signature may have the potential to differentially diagnose immune-mediated neuroinflammatory diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of NR5A1 Mutations and Possible Digenic Inheritance in 46,XY Gonadal Dysgenesis.
Inas Mazen,Mohamed S. Abdel-Hamid,Mona K. Mekkawy,Joelle Bignon-Topalovic,Radia Boudjenah,Mona El Gammal,Mona L. Essawi,Anu Bashamboo,Ken McElreavey +8 more
TL;DR: Exome sequencing identified 2 pathogenic de novo NR5A1 mutations in 2 patients with 46,XY gonadal dysgenesis, p.Q206Tfs*20 and p.Arg313Cys, and the combination of an NR4A1 mutation with a MAP3K1 variant may explain the phenotypic variability associated with NR5a1 mutations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isodicentric Y chromosomes in Egyptian patients with disorders of sex development (DSD).
Mona K. Mekkawy,Alaa K. Kamel,Mona O. El-Ruby,A. M. Mohamed,Mona L. Essawi,Hala Soliman,Nabil Dessouky,Marwa Shehab,Inas Mazen +8 more
TL;DR: The importance of FISH analysis in the diagnosis of patients with DSD is emphasized as well as the establishment of the relationship between phenotype and karyotype.
Journal Article
Molecular analysis of androgen resistance syndromes in Egyptian patients.
TL;DR: The study revealed two mutations previously reported in other geographically distinct populations, inferring the possibility of mutational hot spots in the genes and recommending a screening program for androgen resistance syndromes.
