Journal ArticleDOI
Short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR): the 2002 update.
Udo Oppermann,Charlotta Filling,Malin Hult,Naeem Shafqat,Xiaoqiu Wu,Monica Lindh,Jawed Shafqat,Erik Nordling,Yvonne Kallberg,Bengt Persson,Hans Jörnvall +10 more
TL;DR: A catalytic tetrad of Asn-Ser-Tyr-Lys residues is established, which presumably form the framework for a proton relay system including the 2'-OH of the nicotinamide ribose, similar to the mechanism found in horse liver ADH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improved outcome in shigellosis associated with butyrate induction of an endogenous peptide antibiotic.
Rubhana Raqib,Protim Sarker,Peter Bergman,Gul Ara,Monica Lindh,David A. Sack,K. M. Nasirul Islam,Gudmundur H. Gudmundsson,Jan Andersson,Birgitta Agerberth +9 more
TL;DR: Oral butyrate treatment in shigellosis may be of clinical value because of induction of the endogenous cathelicidin CAP-18 in the colonic epithelium, stimulation of the release of the active peptide CAP- 18, and promoting elimination of Shigella.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impaired release of antimicrobial peptides into nasal fluid of hyper-IgE and CVID patients.
Andreas Cederlund,Marie Olliver,Rokeya Sultana Rekha,Monica Lindh,Lennart Lindbom,Staffan Normark,Birgitta Henriques-Normark,Jan Andersson,Birgitta Agerberth,Peter Bergman,Peter Bergman +10 more
TL;DR: CVID and HIES patients appear to have a dysregulated AMP response to pathogenic bacteria in the upper respiratory tract, which could be linked to an aberrant Th17 cell response.
