Journal ArticleDOI
Antitumor effects of curcumin, alone or in combination with cisplatin or doxorubicin, on human hepatic cancer cells. Analysis of their possible relationship to changes in NF-kB activation levels and in IAP gene expression
Monica Notarbartolo,Paola Poma,Daniela Perri,Luisa Dusonchet,Melchiorre Cervello,Natale D'Alessandro +5 more
TL;DR: The hepatic cancer HA22T/VGH cell line was chosen as a model to examine the antitumor activity of curcumin, also in relationship to its possible influences on the activation of the transcription factor and on the expression of the inhibitory of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) and of other NF-kB target genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resistance to diverse apoptotic triggers in multidrug resistant HL60 cells and its possible relationship to the expression of P-glycoprotein, Fas and of the novel anti-apoptosis factors IAP (inhibitory of apoptosis proteins).
Monica Notarbartolo,Melchiorre Cervello,Luisa Dusonchet,Antonella Cusimano,Natale D'Alessandro +4 more
TL;DR: The results support that IAPs may be involved in tumor resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs or other apoptotic agents.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antitumor effects of curcumin and structurally beta-diketone modified analogs on multidrug resistant cancer cells.
Daniele Simoni,Michele Rizzi,Riccardo Rondanin,Riccardo Baruchello,Paolo Marchetti,Francesco Paolo Invidiata,Manuela Labbozzetta,Paola Poma,Valeria Carina,Monica Notarbartolo,Alessandra Alaimo,Natale D'Alessandro +11 more
TL;DR: Increased antitumor activity on all cell lines was found with the isoxazole analog and especially with the benzyl oxime derivative; in the HA22T/VGH cell model, the latter compound inhibited constitutive NF-kappaB activation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating IL-6 and sIL-6R in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.
Lydia Giannitrapani,M. Cervello,Maurizio Soresi,Monica Notarbartolo,M. La Rosa,Lucrezia Virruso,Natale D'Alessandro,Giuseppe Montalto +7 more
TL;DR: Serum levels of IL‐6 and a soluble form of the interleukin‐6 receptor (sIL‐6R) were evaluated in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and the correlation between IL‐ 6 and sIL‐ 6R values, the stage of hepato Cell carcinoma, and main liver function tests was studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression of the IAPs in multidrug resistant tumor cells.
Monica Notarbartolo,Melchiorre Cervello,Paola Poma,Luisa Dusonchet,Maria Meli,Natale D'Alessandro +5 more
TL;DR: Determination of the DNA-binding capacity of NF-kappaB (p50 or p65 subunits) indicated that, while HL-60 cells show constitutive activation of p50 only, HL- 60R cells contain the activated forms of both p50 and p65.
