Journal ArticleDOI

Antitumor effects of curcumin, alone or in combination with cisplatin or doxorubicin, on human hepatic cancer cells. Analysis of their possible relationship to changes in NF-kB activation levels and in IAP gene expression

TL;DR: The hepatic cancer HA22T/VGH cell line was chosen as a model to examine the antitumor activity of curcumin, also in relationship to its possible influences on the activation of the transcription factor and on the expression of the inhibitory of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) and of other NF-kB target genes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antitumor effects of curcumin and structurally beta-diketone modified analogs on multidrug resistant cancer cells.

TL;DR: Increased antitumor activity on all cell lines was found with the isoxazole analog and especially with the benzyl oxime derivative; in the HA22T/VGH cell model, the latter compound inhibited constitutive NF-kappaB activation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Circulating IL-6 and sIL-6R in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.

TL;DR: Serum levels of IL‐6 and a soluble form of the interleukin‐6 receptor (sIL‐6R) were evaluated in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and the correlation between IL‐ 6 and sIL‐ 6R values, the stage of hepato Cell carcinoma, and main liver function tests was studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

Expression of the IAPs in multidrug resistant tumor cells.

TL;DR: Determination of the DNA-binding capacity of NF-kappaB (p50 or p65 subunits) indicated that, while HL-60 cells show constitutive activation of p50 only, HL- 60R cells contain the activated forms of both p50 and p65.
