Journal ArticleDOI
IVIg immune reconstitution treatment alleviates the state of persistent immune activation and suppressed CD4 T cell counts in CVID.
Dominic Paquin-Proulx,Bianca A. N. Santos,Karina I. Carvalho,Myrthes Toledo-Barros,Ana Karolina Barreto de Oliveira,Cristina M. Kokron,Jorge Kalil,Markus Moll,Esper G. Kallas,Johan K. Sandberg +9 more
TL;DR: Therapeutic enhancement of humoral immunity with IVIg infusions alleviates several of these defects, indicating a relationship between poor antibody-mediated immune control of infections and the occurrence of abnormalities in the T cell and mDC compartments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduced frequency of CD4+CD25HIGHFOXP3+ cells and diminished FOXP3 expression in patients with Common Variable Immunodeficiency: A link to autoimmunity?
Julieta Genre,Paolo Ruggero Errante,Cristina M. Kokron,Myrthes Toledo-Barros,Niels Olsen Saraiva Câmara,Niels Olsen Saraiva Câmara,Luiz Vicente Rizzo +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used flow cytometry to analyze CD4 + CD25 HIGH FOXP3 + T regulatory (Treg) cells and ask whether perturbations in their frequency in peripheral blood could underlie the high incidence of autoimmune disorders in CVID patients.

Journal ArticleDOI
Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases in Different Age Groups: A Report on 1,008 Cases from a Single Brazilian Reference Center
Magda Carneiro-Sampaio,Dewton Moraes-Vasconcelos,Cristina M. Kokron,Cristina Miuki Abe Jacob,Myrthes Toledo-Barros,Mayra de Barros Dorna,Letícia A. Watanabe,Ana Karolina B. B. Marinho,Ana Paula Beltran Moschione Castro,Antonio Carlos Pastorino,Clovis A. Silva,Mauricio Domingues Ferreira,Luiz Vicente Rizzo,Jorge Kalil,Alberto José da Silva Duarte +14 more
TL;DR: The data indicated that some PIDs were only detected at early ages, likely because affected patients do not survive long, and pointed out that different strategies should be used to search for PIDs in infants and young children as compared to older patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dysregulated CD1 profile in myeloid dendritic cells in CVID is normalized by IVIg treatment.
Dominic Paquin-Proulx,Bianca A. N. Santos,Karina I. Carvalho,Myrthes Toledo-Barros,Ana Karolina Barreto de Oliveira,Cristina M. Kokron,Jorge Kalil,Markus Moll,Esper G. Kallas,Johan K. Sandberg +9 more
TL;DR: The CD1 proteins are major histocompatibility complex class I-like molecules specialized in presenting lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells.
