Journal ArticleDOI
Photo-induced treatment of breast epithelial cancer cells using nanostructured titanium dioxide solution
Nefeli Lagopati,Paraskevi V. Kitsiou,A. I. Kontos,P. Venieratos,Eleni S. Kotsopoulou,Athanassios G. Kontos,Dionysios D. Dionysiou,Stergios Pispas,Effie-Photini C Tsilibary,Polycarpos Falaras +9 more
TL;DR: The molecular mechanism of apoptosis is associated at least in part with increase of caspase-3-mediated poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) cleavage, which was profoundly revealed via Western blot analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of nanostructured TiO₂ crystal phase on photoinduced apoptosis of breast cancer epithelial cells.
Nefeli Lagopati,Effie Photini Tsilibary,Polycarpos Falaras,Panagiota Papazafiri,Evangelia A. Pavlatou,Eleni S. Kotsopoulou,Paraskevi V. Kitsiou +6 more
TL;DR: Examination of crystal phase-nanostructured titanium dioxide particles on bioactivity/cytotoxicity in breast cancer epithelial cells indicated that pure anatase TiO2 nanoparticles exhibit superior cytotoxic effects compared to anatase–rutile mixtures of the same size.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Review on Platelet Activating Factor Inhibitors: Could a New Class of Potent Metal-Based Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Induce Anticancer Properties?
Vasiliki D. Papakonstantinou,Nefeli Lagopati,Effie-Photini C Tsilibary,Constantinos A. Demopoulos,Athanassios I. Philippopoulos +4 more
TL;DR: A small library of 30 metal complexes has been created; their anti-inflammatory activity has been further evaluated owing to their inhibitory effect against PAF in washed rabbit platelets (WRPs).
Journal ArticleDOI
Pulmonary infection by SARS-CoV-2 induces senescence accompanied by an inflammatory phenotype in severe COVID-19: possible implications for viral mutagenesis
Konstantinos Evangelou,Dimitris Veroutis,Koralia E. Paschalaki,Periklis G. Foukas,Nefeli Lagopati,Marios Dimitriou,Angelos Papaspyropoulos,Bindu Konda,O Hazapis,Aikaterini Polyzou,Sophia Havaki,Athanassios Kotsinas,Christos Kittas,Athanasios G. Tzioufas,Laurence de Leval,Demetris Vassilakos,Sotirios Tsiodras,Barry R. Stripp,Argyris Papantonis,Giovanni Blandino,Ioannis Karakasiliotis,Peter J. Barnes,Vassilis G. Gorgoulis +22 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors investigated whether severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is associated with cellular senescence and SASP, and they demonstrated that in severe COVID-19, alveolar type 2 (AT2) cells infected by SARS-coV2 exhibit a proinflammatory phenotype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Breath Analysis: A Promising Tool for Disease Diagnosis—The Role of Sensors
M. Kaloumenou,Evangelos Skotadis,Nefeli Lagopati,Efstathios P. Efstathopoulos,Dimitris Tsoukalas +4 more
TL;DR: The aim of the first part of this review is to provide an up-to-date overview of the main categories of sensors studied for disease diagnosis applications via the detection of exhaled gas-analytes and to highlight the role of nanomaterials.
