Journal ArticleDOI

Explaining racial disparities in HIV incidence in black and white men who have sex with men in Atlanta, GA: a prospective observational cohort study.

TL;DR: Black MSM, particularly young black MSM, experienced higher HIV incidence that was not attributable to individual risk behaviors, in a setting where partner pool risk is a driver of disparities, it is also important to maximize care and treatment for HIV-positive MSM.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bias in Online recruitment and retention of racial and ethnic minority men who have sex with men

TL;DR: Differential click-through rates and increased survey dropout by MSM of color indicate that methods to recruit and retain black and Hispanic MSM in Internet-based research studies are paramount.
Journal ArticleDOI

Challenges in Translating PrEP Interest Into Uptake in an Observational Study of Young Black MSM

TL;DR: PrEP uptake may be suboptimal among YBMSM in the authors' cohort even with amelioration of structural barriers that can limit use, and further research is needed to optimize uptake.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sources of racial disparities in HIV prevalence in men who have sex with men in Atlanta, GA, USA: a modelling study

TL;DR: A dynamic, stochastic, agent-based network model of black and white MSM aged 18-39 years in Atlanta, GA, USA, that incorporated race-specific individual and dyadic-level prevention and risk behaviours, network attributes, and care patterns found racial assortativity was an inadequate explanation for observed disparities.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Effect of High Rates of Bacterial Sexually Transmitted Infections on HIV Incidence in a Cohort of Black and White Men Who Have Sex with Men in Atlanta, Georgia

TL;DR: The high incidence of STIs among Atlanta MSM and the association of rectal STI with HIV acquisition after controlling for behavioral risk underscore the importance of routine screening and treatment for STI among sexually active MSM and support targeting intensive HIV prevention interventions, such as preexposure chemoprophylaxis (PrEP).
