Clinical chorioamnionitis at term II: the intra-amniotic inflammatory response
Roberto Romero,Piya Chaemsaithong,Piya Chaemsaithong,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Adi L. Tarca,Adi L. Tarca,Gaurav Bhatti,Zhonghui Xu,Juan Pedro Kusanovic,Zhong Dong,Nikolina Docheva,Alicia Martínez-Varea,Bo Hyun Yoon,Sonia S. Hassan,Sonia S. Hassan,Tinnakorn Chaiworapongsa,Lami Yeo,Lami Yeo +19 more
TL;DR: A subset of patients with term clinical chorioamnionitis does not have intra-amniotic infection/inflammation, as demonstrated by elevated AF concentrations of inflammation-related proteins, when compared to women in term labor with uncomplicated pregnancies, suggesting over-diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical chorioamnionitis at term III : how well do clinical criteria perform in the identification of proven intra-amniotic infection?
Roberto Romero,Piya Chaemsaithong,Piya Chaemsaithong,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Juan Pedro Kusanovic,Nikolina Docheva,Alicia Martínez-Varea,Ahmed I. Ahmed,Bo Hyun Yoon,Sonia S. Hassan,Sonia S. Hassan,Tinnakorn Chaiworapongsa,Lami Yeo,Lami Yeo +15 more
TL;DR: In the presence of a fever during labor at term, signs used to diagnose clinical chorioamnionitis do not accurately identify the patient with proven intra-amniotic infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical chorioamnionitis at term VI: acute chorioamnionitis and funisitis according to the presence or absence of microorganisms and inflammation in the amniotic cavity
Roberto Romero,Piya Chaemsaithong,Piya Chaemsaithong,Nikolina Docheva,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Juan Pedro Kusanovic,Bo Hyun Yoon,Jung Sun Kim,Noppadol Chaiyasit,Ahmed I. Ahmed,Faisal Qureshi,Suzanne M. Jacques,Chong Jai Kim,Sonia S. Hassan,Sonia S. Hassan,Tinnakorn Chaiworapongsa,Lami Yeo,Lami Yeo,Yeon Mee Kim +20 more
TL;DR: Acute histologic chorioamnionitis and funisitis are associated with intra-amniotic infection and the presence of FIRS, however, current pathologic methods have limitations in the identification of the fetus exposed to microorganisms present in the amniotic cavity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of rapid MMP-8 and interleukin-6 point-of-care tests to identify intra-amniotic inflammation/infection and impending preterm delivery in patients with preterm labor and intact membranes*
Piya Chaemsaithong,Roberto Romero,Nikolina Docheva,Noppadol Chaiyasit,Gaurav Bhatti,Percy Pacora,Sonia S. Hassan,Lami Yeo,Offer Erez +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the rapid MMP-8 test has a better specificity than the rapid IL-6 (cutoff: 745 pg/mL) assay for the detection of intra-amniotic infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical chorioamnionitis at term IV: the maternal plasma cytokine profile
Roberto Romero,Piya Chaemsaithong,Piya Chaemsaithong,Nikolina Docheva,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Adi L. Tarca,Adi L. Tarca,Gaurav Bhatti,Zhonghui Xu,Juan Pedro Kusanovic,Zhong Dong,Noppadol Chaiyasit,Ahmed I. Ahmed,Bo Hyun Yoon,Sonia S. Hassan,Sonia S. Hassan,Tinnakorn Chaiworapongsa,Lami Yeo,Lami Yeo +20 more
TL;DR: Observations suggest that a fever can be mediated by increased circulating concentrations of these cytokines, despite the absence of a local intra-amniotic inflammatory response.
