Journal ArticleDOI
Single-cell genomics identifies cell type-specific molecular changes in autism.
Dmitry Velmeshev,Lucas Schirmer,Lucas Schirmer,Diane Jung,Maximilian Haeussler,Yonatan Perez,Simone Mayer,Simone Mayer,Aparna Bhaduri,Nitasha Goyal,Nitasha Goyal,David H. Rowitch,Arnold R. Kriegstein +12 more
TL;DR: It is found that synaptic signaling of upper-layer excitatory neurons and the molecular state of microglia are preferentially affected in autism, and results show that dysregulation of specific groups of genes in cortico-cortical projection neurons correlates with clinical severity of autism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuronal vulnerability and multilineage diversity in multiple sclerosis
Lucas Schirmer,Dmitry Velmeshev,Staffan Holmqvist,Max Kaufmann,Sebastian Werneburg,Diane Jung,Stephanie Vistnes,John H. Stockley,Adam Young,Maike Steindel,Brian Tung,Brian Tung,Nitasha Goyal,Nitasha Goyal,Aparna Bhaduri,Simone Mayer,Jan Broder Engler,Omer Ali Bayraktar,Robin J.M. Franklin,Maximilian Haeussler,Richard Reynolds,Dorothy P. Schafer,Manuel A. Friese,Lawrence R. Shiow,Arnold R. Kriegstein,David H. Rowitch,David H. Rowitch +26 more
TL;DR: A map of gene expression in lesions from brains of patients with multiple sclerosis is constructed, revealing distinct lineage- and region-specific transcriptomic changes associated with selective cortical neuron damage and glial activation.
Posted ContentDOI
Molecular diversity and lineage commitment of human interneuron progenitors
Velmeshev D,Manideep Chavali,Manideep Chavali,Tomasz J. Nowakowski,Bhade M,Simone Mayer,Nitasha Goyal,Nitasha Goyal,Alvarado B,Mancia W,Mancia W,Shiyun Wang,Matthew L. Speir,Maximilian Haeussler,Rowitch D,Rowitch D,Arturo Alvarez-Buylla,Arturo Alvarez-Buylla,Eric J. Huang,Paredes M,Arnold R. Kriegstein +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors applied single-cell RNA sequencing to samples of second trimester human ganglionic eminence and developing cortex to identify molecularly defined subtypes of human interneuron progenitors and immature interneurons.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Unusual Case of Giant Cell Arteritis
Nitasha Goyal,Arjun Basnet,T. Donenfeld,Kripa Tiwari,Britney M Clemen,Htin Aung Kyaw,Ifeanyi Nwosu,Emeka Ibeson,Sarita Konka +8 more
TL;DR: The case of a 73-year-old male with a past medical history of cerebral vascular accident, diabetes, and cancer that presented with 10 days of bilateral headaches and fevers indicates the importance of maintaining a high index of clinical suspicion for GCA in the elderly population presenting with headaches and elevated ESR and CRP.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Case of Thyrotoxic Periodic Paralysis: "I Can't Move!"
TL;DR: In this article , a 27-year-old Asian male with recurrent attacks of weakness in all four extremities was diagnosed with thyroid thyroiditis and a subsequent diagnosis of thyroiditis secondary to Grave's disease was made.
