Wiens,Jeffrey W. Eaton,Jeffrey W. Eaton,Jessica Justman,Alex Opio,Benn Sartorius,Frank Tanser,Njeri Wabiri,Peter Piot,Christopher J L Murray,Simon I. Hay +42 more
TL;DR: This analysis reveals substantial within-country variation in the prevalence of HIV throughout sub-Saharan Africa and local differences in both the direction and rate of change in HIV prevalence between 2000 and 2017, highlighting the degree to which important local differences are masked when examining trends at the country level.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contraception coverage and methods used among women in South Africa: A national household survey.
Matthew Chersich,Njeri Wabiri,Kathryn Risher,Olive Shisana,David D. Celentano,Thomas Rehle,Meredith Evans,Helen Rees +7 more
TL;DR: Contraception coverage in South Africa is higher than many previous estimates, however, rates of unintended pregnancy, contraceptive failure and knowledge gaps demonstrate high levels of unmet need, especially among black Africans and young women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Socio-economic inequality and HIV in South Africa
Njeri Wabiri,Negussie Taffa +1 more
TL;DR: The findings underline the disproportionate burden of HIV disease and HIV fear among the poor and vulnerable in South Africa and suggest a compelling urgency for the national HIV/AIDS response to maximizing program focus for the poor particularly women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantifying South Africa's crude oil import risk: a multi-criteria portfolio model
Njeri Wabiri,Hammed Amusa +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the relationship between supply sources diversification and oil energy security risks, and provided an objective evaluation of different import adjustment strategies on South Africa's total crude oil import risks, showing that a policy of having constant monthly imports from each supply region reduces the specific and systematic risks of the oil import portfolio by an average rate of 71% and 2.9% respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeting the right interventions to the right people and places: the role of geospatial analysis in HIV program planning
Gesine Meyer-Rath,Jessica B. McGillen,Diego F. Cuadros,Timothy B. Hallett,Samir Bhatt,Njeri Wabiri,Frank Tanser,Thomas Rehle +7 more
TL;DR: It is contended here that geospatial analysis has the potential to improve the impact and efficiency of the AIDS response and translate into more effective interventions to reduce HIV incidence.
