Journal ArticleDOI
Cooperativity in Ion Hydration
TL;DR: A combined terahertz and femtosecond infrared spectroscopic study of water dynamics around different ions reveals that the effect of ions and counterions on water can be strongly interdependent and nonadditive, and in certain cases extends well beyond the first solvation shell of water molecules directly surrounding the ion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Current challenges and routes forward for nonaqueous lithium–air batteries
Tao Liu,Tao Liu,J. Padmanabhan Vivek,Evan Wenbo Zhao,Jiang Lei,Nuria Garcia-Araez,Clare P. Grey +6 more
TL;DR: The fundamental principles of lithium peroxide based cell reactions are introduced and the effectiveness of the different strategies that have been proposed to mitigate the various issues of this chemistry are evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Water dissociation on well-defined platinum surfaces: The electrochemical perspective
Maria J. T. C. van der Niet,Nuria Garcia-Araez,Nuria Garcia-Araez,Javier Jesús Ramírez Hernández,Juan M. Feliu,Marc T. M. Koper +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of water dissociation on the blank cyclic voltammetry of well-defined single-crystalline stepped platinum surfaces was discussed, and a model was proposed to explain the anomalous pH dependence and provide a possible explanation for the higher catalytic activity of alkaline media for electrooxidation reactions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selective electrocatalysis of ammonia oxidation on Pt(100) sites in alkaline medium
TL;DR: In this article, a study using stepped electrodes with Pt(100) terraces and monoatomic Pt(111) steps, Pt(S[n(100),x(111), Miller indices Pt(2[n1, 1,1,1)], showed that the activity of the electrode is strongly dependent on the terrace width, i.e., the wider the terraces the less positive the peak potential for ammonia oxidation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cathodic corrosion: a quick, clean, and versatile method for the synthesis of metallic nanoparticles.
A. I. Yanson,Paramaconi Rodriguez,Nuria Garcia-Araez,Nuria Garcia-Araez,Rik V. Mom,Frans D. Tichelaar,Marc T. M. Koper +6 more
TL;DR: A simple and effective method based on extreme cathodic polarization of a metal, formation of cation-stabilized metal anions, and their agglomeration is reported, which improves catalytic activity of these nanoparticles in the oxidation of carbon monoxide as well as methanol.
