35 J broadband femtosecond optical parametric chirped pulse amplification system

TL;DR: What is believed to be the first large-aperture and high-energy optical parametric chirped pulse amplification system, based on a three-stage amplifier, shows 25% pump-to-signal conversion efficiency and amplification of the full 70 nm width of the seed spectrum.
Journal ArticleDOI

100 J-level nanosecond pulsed diode pumped solid state laser

TL;DR: The successful demonstration of a 100 J-level, diode pumped solid state laser based on cryogenic gas cooled, multi-slab ceramic Yb:YAG amplifier technology confirms the energy scalability of the diode pumping optical laser for experiments laser architecture.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improving coherent contrast of petawatt laser pulses

TL;DR: An experimental study of the "coherent" contrast feature that frequently appears in petawatt(PW)-class laser pulses as an exponentially-rising pedestal within a few tens of picoseconds of the compressed pulse shows that scattering from the diffraction gratings in the stretcher is the principal source of this feature.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Astra Gemini project - : A dual-beam petawatt Ti:Sapphire laser system

TL;DR: Agarwal et al. as discussed by the authors proposed the Astra Gemini project to extend the capabilities of Astra to Petawatt level by providing two 0.5 PW beams in a completely new radiation-shielded interaction area.
