Journal ArticleDOI
Generation of terawatt pulses by use of optical parametric chirped pulse amplification
Ian N. Ross,John Collier,Pavel Matousek,Colin N. Danson,David Neely,Ric M. Allott,D.A. Pepler,Cristina Hernandez-Gomez,Karoly Osvay +8 more
TL;DR: Some spectral narrowing during amplification was shown to be compatible with the time-varying profile of the pump beam and consistent with the measured recompressed pulse durations before and after amplification, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electron Acceleration in Cavitated Channels Formed by a Petawatt Laser in Low-Density Plasma
Stuart Mangles,B. Walton,Michail Tzoufras,Zulfikar Najmudin,R. J. Clarke,A. E. Dangor,Roger Evans,Sven Fritzler,A. Gopal,Cristina Hernandez-Gomez,Warren Mori,Wojciech Rozmus,Michael Tatarakis,Alexander Thomas,Frank Tsung,Mingsheng Wei,Karl Krushelnick +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that there is no correlation between the acceleration of electrons and plasma wave production and particle-in-cell simulations show that the laser ponderomotive force produces an ion channel.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ion acceleration by collisionless shocks in high-intensity-laser-underdense-plasma interaction.
Mingsheng Wei,Stuart Mangles,Zulfikar Najmudin,B. Walton,A. Gopal,Michael Tatarakis,A. E. Dangor,E.L. Clark,E.L. Clark,Roger Evans,Roger Evans,Sven Fritzler,R. J. Clarke,Cristina Hernandez-Gomez,David Neely,Warren Mori,Michail Tzoufras,Karl Krushelnick +17 more
TL;DR: Two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations suggest that multiple collisionless shocks are formed at high density and leads to an enhanced ion acceleration beyond that possible by the ponderomotive potential of the laser alone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Kilowatt average power 100 J-level diode pumped solid state laser
Paul Mason,Martin Divoký,Klaus Ertel,Jan Pilař,Thomas Butcher,Martin Hanus,Saumyabrata Banerjee,Jonathan Phillips,Jodie Smith,Mariastefania De Vido,Antonio Lucianetti,Cristina Hernandez-Gomez,Chris Edwards,Tomas Mocek,John Collier +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report efficient and stable operation of the first multi-joule diode pumped solid state laser delivering 1 kW average power in 105 J, 10 ns pulses at 10 Hz.
Journal ArticleDOI
35 J broadband femtosecond optical parametric chirped pulse amplification system
Oleg Chekhlov,John Collier,Ian N. Ross,P. Bates,M. M. Notley,Cristina Hernandez-Gomez,Waseem Shaikh,Colin N. Danson,D. Neely,Pavel Matousek,S. Hancock,Luís Cardoso +11 more
TL;DR: What is believed to be the first large-aperture and high-energy optical parametric chirped pulse amplification system, based on a three-stage amplifier, shows 25% pump-to-signal conversion efficiency and amplification of the full 70 nm width of the seed spectrum.
