Effects of warming on shrub abundance and chemistry drive ecosystem-level changes in a forest-tundra ecotone.
Elina Kaarlejärvi,Robert Baxter,Annika Hofgaard,Håkan Hytteborn,Olga Khitun,Olga Khitun,Ulf Molau,Sofie Sjögersten,Philip A. Wookey,Johan Olofsson +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a long-term and multisite warming (OTC) experiment in the Scandinavian forest-tundra ecotone to investigate changes in plant community composition and responses in foliar nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon-based secondary compound concentrations in two dominant evergreen dwarf-shrubs (Empetrum hermaphroditum and Vaccinium vitis-idaea) and two deciduous shrubs (Vaccinium myrtillus and Betula nana).
Journal ArticleDOI
Interactive effects between plant functional types and soil factors on tundra species diversity and community composition
Maitane Iturrate-Garcia,Michael O'Brien,Olga Khitun,Samuel Abiven,Pascal A. Niklaus,Gabriela Schaepman-Strub +5 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that incorporating differential responses of PFT is important for predicting vegetation shifts, primary productivity, and in turn, ecosystem functioning in a changing climate.
Journal Article
Floristic complexes on landslides of different age in Central Yamal, West Siberian Low Arctic, Russia
TL;DR: In this paper, a ground-based dataset is used for correct interpretation of remote sensing data in the West-Siberian Arctic, which has been exposed to rapid land-cover and land-use changes during the last 50 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Applications of Local Floras for Floristic Subdivision and Monitoring Vascular Plant Diversity in the Russian Arctic
Olga Khitun,Tat’iana Koroleva,Svetlana V. Chinenko,Vladislav V. Petrovsky,Elena B. Pospelova,Igor N. Pospelov,A. A. Zverev +6 more
TL;DR: The local flora method has been used by Russian botanists for studying vast wilderness areas as mentioned in this paper, which strives to determine the total flora within a certain limited area and provides comparable d...
