Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiac Rotational Mechanics As a Predictor of Myocardial Recovery in Heart Failure Patients Undergoing Chronic Mechanical Circulatory Support: A Pilot Study
Michael J. Bonios,Antigone Koliopoulou,Omar Wever-Pinzon,Iosif Taleb,Josef Stehlik,Weining Xu,James Wever-Pinzon,Anna Catino,Abdallah G. Kfoury,Benjamin D. Horne,Jose Nativi-Nicolau,Stamatis Adamopoulos,James C. Fang,Craig H. Selzman,Jeroen J. Bax,Stavros G. Drakos,Stavros G. Drakos,Stavros G. Drakos +17 more
TL;DR: LV rotational mechanics seem to be useful in selecting patients prone to cardiac recovery after mechanical unloading induced by LVADs, and future studies should investigate the utility of these markers in predicting durable heart recovery after the explantation of the cardiac assist device.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recovery With Temporary Mechanical Circulatory Support While Waitlisted for Heart Transplantation.
Veli K. Topkara,Gabriel Sayer,Kevin J. Clerkin,Omar Wever-Pinzon,Koji Takeda,Hiroo Takayama,Craig H. Selzman,Yoshifumi Naka,Daniel Burkhoff,Josef Stehlik,Maryjane Farr,James C. Fang,Nir Uriel,Stavros G. Drakos +13 more
TL;DR: The 2018 U.S. heart allocation system offers an accelerated pathway for heart transplantation to the most urgent patients as discussed by the authors , which may not offer select temporary mechanical circulatory support patients the opportunity and adequate time to recover to the point of waitlist removal.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ventricular assist devices: pharmacological aspects of a mechanical therapy.
Omar Wever-Pinzon,Josef Stehlik,Josef Stehlik,Abdallah G. Kfoury,Abdallah G. Kfoury,Abdallah G. Kfoury,John Terrovitis,Nikolaos A. Diakos,Nikolaos A. Diakos,Christos Charitos,Dean Y. Li,Stavros G. Drakos +11 more
TL;DR: The latest available evidence supporting the use of specific pharmacological interventions and current practices in the care of patients with end-stage HF are reviewed, including anticoagulation, bleeding management, pump thrombosis, infections, arrhythmias, right ventricular failure, hypertension, desensitization protocols, among others.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arterial embolism caused by large mobile aortic thrombus in the absence of atherosclerosis, associated with iron deficiency anemia.
Inna F. Bukharovich,Omar Wever-Pinzon,Ajay Shah,George J. Todd,Farooq A. Chaudhry,Mark V. Sherrid +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, Echocardiography 2012;29:369•372] was used to study the effect of EKF on the EKG parameters of the human heart.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recurrent Takotsubo cardiomyopathy presenting with different morphologic patterns
TL;DR: A review of the literature on ACE inhibitor angioedema of the intestine and the role of bradykinin in the treatment of resistant angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor angIOedema from 1993 to 2002.
