TL;DR: The following hypothesis will be tested in patients with operations for colorectal cancer and increased preoperative risk (ASA 3 and 4): is the outcome as evaluated by the hermeneutic endpoint (quality of life expressed by the patient) and mechanistic endpoints improved in the group receiving filgrastim prophylaxis in comparison with the placebo group?

Transition from contamination to infection : Implications in colonic surgery. Commentary
TL;DR: After reviewing the processes leading from contamination to infection and its clinical implications I conclude that outcome after emergency colonic surgery in general is the result of three factors: elimination of the surgical problem; extent of preoperative physiological derangement; and the patient's immediate response to intensive care and surgery.
