Quantitative measurements of three-dimensional structures in the wake of a circular cylinder

TL;DR: In this article, a spatial decomposition technique was developed to split the total flow into a primary flow component and a secondary flow component, where the primary flow is comprised of the mean flow and Strouhal vortices, while the secondary flow is the result of the three-dimensional streamwise vortice that are the essence of transition to turbulence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oblique and parallel wave interaction in the near wake of a circular cylinder

TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that the amplitude and phase distribution of the interacting waves are continuous along the span of a circular cylinder and that the difference mode associated with the vortex dislocations is predicted by taking the product of the complex wave amplitudes of the parent modes.
Book ChapterDOI

Symmetry of Two- and Three Dimensional Modes at a Vortex Shedding Interface in a Cylinder Wake

TL;DR: In this paper, the spatial symmetry of interacting 2D and 3D waves that occur in the near wake region under natural and forced conditions are shown to follow a simple set of symmetry rules.
