Prophylactic Central Compartment Lymph Node Dissection in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: Clinical Implications Derived From the First Prospective Randomized Controlled Single Institution Study

TL;DR: Evaluating the clinical advantages and disadvantages of prophylactic central compartment lymph node dissection in papillary thyroid cancer showed a similar outcome, with one advantage being a reduced necessity to repeat repeat treatments, but the disadvantage was a higher prevalence of permanent hypoparathyroidism.
Journal ArticleDOI

The BRAF V600E Mutation Is an Independent, Poor Prognostic Factor for the Outcome of Patients with Low-Risk Intrathyroid Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: Single-Institution Results from a Large Cohort Study

TL;DR: The BRAF(V600E) mutation was demonstrated to be a poor prognostic factor for the persistence of the disease independent from other clinical-pathological features in low-risk intrathyroid PTC patients, and could be useful to identify those who require less or more aggressive treatments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Esophageal baseline impedance levels in patients with pathophysiological characteristics of functional heartburn

TL;DR: Compared baseline impedance levels in patients with heartburn and pathophysiological characteristics related to functional heartburn are divided into two groups on the basis of symptom relief after proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
Journal ArticleDOI

Real-Time Elastosonography: Useful Tool for Refining the Presurgical Diagnosis in Thyroid Nodules with Indeterminate or Nondiagnostic Cytology

TL;DR: Use may represent an important tool for the diagnosis of thyroid cancer in nodules with indeterminate or nondiagnostic cytology and may prove useful in selecting patients who are candidates for surgery.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hashimoto's thyroiditis is associated with papillary thyroid carcinoma: role of TSH and of treatment with l-thyroxine

TL;DR: The frequency of PTC is significantly higher in nodular-HT than in NG and is associated with increased levels of serum TSH, and treatment with L-T4 reduces TSH levels and decreases the occurrence of clinically detectable PTC.
