Coagulant and antibacterial activities of the water‐soluble seed lectin from Moringa oleifera
Rodrigo da Silva Ferreira,Rodrigo da Silva Ferreira,Thiago Henrique Napoleão,Andréa F. S. Santos,Roberto Araújo Sá,Maria G. Carneiro-da-Cunha,M.M.C. Morais,Rosemeire A. Silva-Lucca,Rosemeire A. Silva-Lucca,Maria Luiza Vilela Oliva,Luana Cassandra Breitenbach Barroso Coelho,Patrícia Mg Paiva +11 more
TL;DR: The aim of this work was to analyse the coagulant and antibacterial activities of lectin isolated from Moringa oleifera seeds that are used for water treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of water soluble lectin and antioxidant component from Moringa oleifera seeds
Andréa F. S. Santos,Adriana C. C. Argolo,Luana Cassandra Breitenbach Barroso Coelho,Patrícia Mg Paiva +3 more
TL;DR: In this paper, extracts obtained by water soaking of Moringa oleifera intact seeds were investigated for the presence of lectin, trypsin inhibitor, tannin as well as antioxidant activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antioxidant activity of Moringa oleifera tissue extracts.
Andréa F. S. Santos,Adriana C. C. Argolo,Patrícia Mg Paiva,Luana Cassandra Breitenbach Barroso Coelho +3 more
TL;DR: Investigating the antioxidant activity of M. oleifera ethanolic and saline extracts found that they contain antioxidants that support the use of the plant tissues as food sources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coagulant properties of Moringa oleifera protein preparations: application to humic acid removal
Andréa F. S. Santos,Patrícia Mg Paiva,José A. Teixeira,António G. Brito,Luana Cassandra Breitenbach Barroso Coelho,Regina Nogueira +5 more
TL;DR: Results suggested that the extract from M. oleifera seeds in a low concentration (1 mg/L) can be an interesting natural alternative for removing humic acid from water in developing countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insect midgut structures and molecules as targets of plant-derived protease inhibitors and lectins.
Thiago Henrique Napoleão,Lidiane Pereira de Albuquerque,Nataly D. L. Santos,Isabella Cv Nova,Thâmarah de Albuquerque Lima,Patrícia Mg Paiva,Emmanuel Viana Pontual +6 more
TL;DR: The establishment of resistant insect populations due to selective pressure resulting from massive use of a bioactive protein is an actual possibility, but this can be minimized by the multiple mode-of-action of these proteins, mainly the lectins.
