Detection of pathogenic Leptospira spp. through TaqMan polymerase chain reaction targeting the LipL32 gene

TL;DR: A real-time PCR assay using a TaqMan probe targeting lipL32, which is present only in pathogenic Leptospira spp, with high specificity and sensitivity may prove to be a rapid method for diagnosing acute leptospirosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Post-translational Modifications of Recombinant P-selectin Glycoprotein Ligand-1 Required for Binding to P- and E-selectin

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that PSGL-1 requires core 2 O-linked glycans that are sialylated and fucosylated to bind P- and E-selectin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tyrosine Sulfation of P-selectin Glycoprotein Ligand-1 Is Required for High Affinity Binding to P-selectin (∗)

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that PSGL-1 synthesized in human HL-60 cells can be metabolically labeled with [S]sulfate that is incorporated primarily into tyrosine sulfate, resulting in a concordant decrease in binding to P-selectin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluation of Three Commercial Assays for Detection of Giardia and Cryptosporidium Organisms in Fecal Specimens

TL;DR: One of these rapid diagnostic tests, the ImmunoCard STAT! lateral-flow immunoassay, was compared with the MERIFLUOR direct fluorescent-antibody (DFA) test, the Pro SpecT EZ microplate assay for Giardia and the ProSpecT microplate assays for Cryptosporidium, and modified Kinyoun's acid-fast stained smears for the detection of Cryptospora.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structures of the O-Glycans on P-selectin Glycoprotein Ligand-1 from HL-60 Cells

TL;DR: The structures of the Ser/Thr-linked O-glycans of PSGL-1 synthesized by HL-60 cells metabolically radiolabeled with 3H-sugar precursors are described and demonstrated to be critical for high affinity interactions between PS GL-1 and selectins.
