Journal ArticleDOI

Synthetic therapeutic peptides: science and market.

TL;DR: This review reports on the unexpected and considerable number of peptides that are currently available as drugs and the chemical strategies that were used to bring them into the market.
Journal ArticleDOI

Medicinal chemistry based approaches and nanotechnology-based systems to improve CNS drug targeting and delivery.

TL;DR: This review article overviews in this review article the fundamental physiological properties of the blood–brain barrier (BBB), a physical and physiological barrier that filters very efficiently and selectively the entry of compounds from the blood to the brain and protects nervous tissue from harmful substances and infectious agents present in the bloodstream.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis of new covalently bound kappa-carrageenan-AZT conjugates with improved anti-HIV activities.

TL;DR: This paper describes the first covalent synthesis of kappa-carrageenan-3'-azido-3-deoxythymidine (AZT) conjugates, which contain a low AZT concentration, and could be of great therapeutic interest because these conjugate present improved anti-HIV activities relative to free AZT.
Journal ArticleDOI

New Bicyclam−AZT Conjugates: Design, Synthesis, Anti-HIV Evaluation, and Their Interaction with CXCR-4 Coreceptor

TL;DR: It appears that N-protected covalent prodrugs are equipotent to AZT as inhibitor of HIV replication, while N-deprotected analogues exhibit both higher activity and selectivity against HIV-infected cells.
