Journal ArticleDOI
UK Biobank Pilot Study: Stability of haematological and clinical chemistry analytes
TL;DR: The results suggest that any instability in assay results up to 36 h is likely to be small in comparison with between individual differences and assay error, and that a single assay measurement at any time between 0 and 36 h should give a representative value of the analyte concentration at time zero for that individual.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of raw fruit and fruit juice consumption with blood pressure: the INTERMAP Study
Linda M. Oude Griep,Jeremiah Stamler,Queenie Chan,Linda Van Horn,Lyn M. Steffen,Katsuyuki Miura,Hirotsugu Ueshima,Nagako Okuda,Liancheng Zhao,Martha L. Daviglus,Paul Elliott +10 more
TL;DR: Consistent associations were not found between raw fruit and fruit juice consumption of individuals and BP in Western countries.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sylvane Desrivières,Anbarasu Lourdusamy,Christian P. Müller,Francesca Ducci,Cybele P. Wong,Marika Kaakinen,Anneli Pouta,Anna-Liisa Hartikainen,Matti Isohanni,Pimphen Charoen,Leena Peltonen,Leena Peltonen,Leena Peltonen,Nelson B. Freimer,Paul Elliott,Marjo-Riitta Järvelin,Gunter Schumann +16 more
TL;DR: The authors investigated the role of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) gene (NR3C1) in onset of alcohol use and abuse in 14-year-old adolescents.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prenatal, early-life and childhood exposure to air pollution and lung function: the ALSPAC cohort
Yutong Cai,Yutong Cai,Anna Hansell,Raquel Granell,Marta Blangiardo,Mariagrazia Zottoli,Daniela Fecht,John S. Gulliver,A. John Henderson,Paul Elliott +9 more
TL;DR: Exposure to road-traffic PM10 during pregnancy may result in small but significant reductions in lung function at age 8 years, and at age 15 years, no adverse associations were seen with lung function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary salt and blood pressure
TL;DR: High salt intake is believed to have adverse effects on blood pressure levels in humans, but for the first time it has been shown to increase blood pressure in chimpanzees.
