Clinical guidelines on central venous catheterisation
Peter Frykholm,Andreas Pikwer,Fredrik Hammarskjöld,A. T. Larsson,S. Lindgren,R. Lindwall,Knut Taxbro,F. Oberg,Stefan Acosta,Jonas Åkeson +9 more
TL;DR: The Swedish guidelines for clinical management of central venous catheters (CVCs) as mentioned in this paper provide useful and reliable guidelines on bleeding diathesis, vascular approach, ultrasonic guidance, catheter tip positioning, prevention and management of associated trauma and infection, specific training and follow-up.
Journal ArticleDOI
Low incidence of pulmonary aspiration in children allowed intake of clear fluids until called to the operating suite
TL;DR: The pediatric anesthesia unit of Uppsala University Hospital has been implementing a more liberal fasting regime for more than a decade; thus, children scheduled for elective procedures are allowed to drink clear fluids until called to the operating suite.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increase of interstitial glycerol reflects the degree of ischaemic brain damage: a PET and microdialysis study in a middle cerebral artery occlusion-reperfusion primate model
Peter Frykholm,Lars Hillered,Bengt Långström,Lennart Persson,Johann Valtysson,Yasuyoshi Watanabe,Per Enblad +6 more
TL;DR: A marked, sustained increase in interstitial glycerol is indicative of severe ischaemia in this stroke model, and in combination with other biochemical markers such as the LP ratio and glutamate may be useful for clinical monitoring of the ischaemic brain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preoperative fasting in children: review of existing guidelines and recent developments.
TL;DR: The physiological basis for various fasting recommendations, the temporal relationship between fluid intake and residual gastric content, and the pathophysiological effects of preoperative fasting are examined, and recent publications of various attempts to reduce the incidence of prolonged fasting in children are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion and Reperfusion in Primates Monitored by Microdialysis and Sequential Positron Emission Tomography
Per Enblad,Peter Frykholm,Johann Valtysson,Hans C:son Silander,Jesper L. R. Andersson,Karl-Johan Fasth,Yasuyoshi Watanabe,Bengt Långström,Lars Hillered,Lennart Persson +9 more
TL;DR: This experimental study of focal ischemia showed that the extracellular changes of energy-related metabolites and glutamate differed depending on the ischemic state of the brain during MCA occlusion and depending on whether reperfusion occurred.
