Early‐onset L‐dopa‐responsive parkinsonism with pyramidal signs due to ATP13A2, PLA2G6, FBXO7 and spatacsin mutations
Coro Paisán-Ruiz,Rocio Guevara,Monica Federoff,Hasmet Hanagasi,Fardaz Sina,Elahe Elahi,Susanne A. Schneider,Petra Schwingenschuh,Nin Bajaj,Murat Emre,Andrew B. Singleton,Andrew B. Singleton,John Hardy,Kailash P. Bhatia,Sebastian Brandner,Andrew J. Lees,Henry Houlden +16 more
TL;DR: Genetic defects in the ATP13A2, PLA2G6, FBXO7, and SPG11 genes are identified, suggesting that these four genes account for many cases of Levodopa responsive parkinsonism with pyramidal signs cases formerly categorized clinically as pallido‐pyramidal syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distinguishing SWEDDs patients with asymmetric resting tremor from Parkinson's disease: A clinical and electrophysiological study
Petra Schwingenschuh,Diane Ruge,Mark J. Edwards,Carmen Terranova,Petra Katschnig,Fátima Carrillo,Laura Silveira-Moriyama,Susanne A. Schneider,Georg Kägi,Francisco J. Palomar,Penelope Talelli,John Dickson,Andrew J. Lees,Niall Quinn,Pablo Mir,John C. Rothwell,Kailash P. Bhatia +16 more
TL;DR: There are features that can help to distinguish between PD and SWEDDs which may be useful in clinical practice, and a single tremor parameter could not differentiate between groups, but the combination of re‐emergent tremor and highest tremor amplitude at rest was characteristic of PD tremor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term antidyskinetic efficacy of amantadine in Parkinson's disease
Elisabeth Wolf,Klaus Seppi,Regina Katzenschlager,Guenter Hochschorner,Gerhard Ransmayr,Petra Schwingenschuh,Erwin Ott,Iris Kloiber,Dietrich Haubenberger,Eduard Auff,Werner Poewe +10 more
TL;DR: Findings argue for long‐term antidyskinetic efficacy of amantadine in PD patients with LID's.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping in Parkinson's Disease
Christian Langkammer,Lukas Pirpamer,Stephan Seiler,Andreas Deistung,Ferdinand Schweser,Sebastian Franthal,Nina Homayoon,Petra Katschnig-Winter,Mariella Koegl-Wallner,Tamara Pendl,Eva Maria Stoegerer,Karoline Wenzel,Franz Fazekas,Stefan Ropele,Jürgen R. Reichenbach,Reinhold Schmidt,Petra Schwingenschuh +16 more
TL;DR: The established finding of higher R2* rates in the substantia nigra was extended by QSM showing superior sensitivity for PD-related tissue changes in nigrostriatal dopaminergic pathways, suggesting a more widespread pathologic involvement in patients with idiopathic Parkinson’s disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Autosomal-dominant GTPCH1-deficient DRD: clinical characteristics and long-term outcome of 34 patients
Iris Trender-Gerhard,Mary G. Sweeney,Petra Schwingenschuh,Pablo Mir,Mark J. Edwards,Alexander Gerhard,James M. Polke,Michael G. Hanna,Mary B. Davis,Nicholas W. Wood,Kailash P. Bhatia +10 more
TL;DR: The study describes a number of supplementary features including restless-legs-like symptoms, influence of female sex hormones, predominance of tremor or parkinsonism in adult-onset cases, initial reverse reaction to levodopa, recurrent episodes of depressive disorder and specificlevodopa-resistant symptoms.
