Journal ArticleDOI

Crustacean haemocytes and haematopoiesis

TL;DR: Crustacean haemocytes play important roles in the host immune response including recognition, phagocytosis, melanization, cytotoxicity and cell-cell communication.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structure and biological activity of a 1,3-beta-D-glucan-binding protein in crustacean blood.

TL;DR: The molecular cloning and carbohydrate composition of the 1,3-beta-D-glucan-binding protein from the freshwater crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus are reported and it is demonstrated that this protein can act as an opsonin, stimulating phagocytic uptake of yeast particles by isolated blood cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Host prophenoloxidase expression in freshwater crayfish is linked to increased resistance to the crayfish plague fungus, Aphanomyces astaci.

TL;DR: A major difference found was that resistant crayfish continuously produced high levels of prophenoloxidase (proPO) transcripts and that these levels could not be further increased, whereas in susceptible cray fish proPO transcript levels and resistance were augmented by immunostimulants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Purification and cDNA cloning of a four-domain Kazal proteinase inhibitor from crayfish blood cells

TL;DR: This protein seems to be the first described Kazal inhibitor from blood cells of any animal and the first one with four domains, and has significant sequence similarity to serine proteinase inhibitors of the Kazal family.
