Journal ArticleDOI

Pathophysiology of portal hypertension.

TL;DR: An expanded plasma volume is observed in all forms of portal hypertension, due to renal sodium retention, which has been shown to precede the increase in cardiac output and can be prevented or reversed by sodium restriction and spironolactone.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modulation of the hyperdynamic circulation of cirrhotic rats by nitric oxide inhibition.

TL;DR: The concept that local excess formation of NO contributes to changes in splanchnic circulation associated with portal hypertension in cirrhosis in rats with cirrhotic rats is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhancement of portal pressure reduction by the association of isosorbide-5-mononitrate to propranolol administration in patients with cirrhosis

TL;DR: Study results indicate that isosorbide‐5‐mononitrate enhances the beneficial effects of propranolol on portal hypertension in patients with cirrhosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

CD84 functions as a homophilic adhesion molecule and enhances IFN-gamma secretion: adhesion is mediated by Ig-like domain 1.

TL;DR: Concurrent ligation of human CD84 with mAbs or CD84-Ig and CD3 enhanced IFN-γ secretion in human lymphocytes and acts as a costimulatory molecule.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of blood volume restitution following a portal hypertensive-related bleeding in anesthetized cirrhotic rats

TL;DR: It is concluded that a transfusion policy aimed at completely replacing blood loss worsens the magnitude of bleeding and mortality from portal hypertensive‐related bleeding in cirrhotic rats and on the contrary, moderate blood transfusion allowed hemodynamic stabilization and increased survival.
