This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for \"experimenters\") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment. It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. Electroless nickel, alloy, composite and nano coatings – A critical review

A B S T R A C T The mechanical and tribological properties of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) polymer filled with micron-sized zinc oxide (ZnO) are studied in this paper. The mechanical properties viz. tensile modulus, tensile strength, flexural modulus, flexural strength and micro-hardness are studied. For mechanical tests, ABS/ZnO composite materials are developed with 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 wt% of filler. It is seen from the results that the tensile and flexural moduli increase with increase up to considered filler content, but the tensile strength and flexural strength increase up to 15 wt% and then start decreasing. The tribological behavior (friction coefficient and specific wear rate) of ABS composites filled with ZnO filler sliding against the steel counter face are investigated varying filler content (A), normal load (B) and sliding speed (C) with three levels of each parameter. The experiments are conducted on a multitribotester (block-on-roller configuration) using L27 orthogonal array (OA) of Taguchi analysis. To optimize the multiple responses (friction coefficient and specific wear rate), grey relational analysis is performed for the experimental results. It is seen from the analysis that the highest level of design parameters (A3B3C3) provides minimum friction coefficient and specific wear rate. The most influential factor which affects the tribological properties is normal load (B) followed by sliding speed (C) and filler content (A). Finally, a confirmation test is also carried out to validate the optimized results and it is seen that the grey relational grade is increased about 22% from initial to optimum conditions. The worn surfaces of ABS filled with micron-sized ZnO are also investigated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. Wear and friction behavior of Al-TiB 2 -nano-Gr hybrid composites fabricated through ultrasonic cavitation assisted stir casting

The present work aims to investigate and correlate the wear behavior of electroless Ni P - W coating under dry and lubricated conditions with the tribological testing par ameters. A pin - on - disc configuration test setup is used for the same. Taguchi’s orthogonal design of experiments technique is used to carry out the experiments. Both response surface and fuzzy rule based models are seen to be effective in determining t he complex interrelationship between the wear depth of the coatings and the test parameters, namely applied normal load, sliding speed and sliding duration. The coefficient of determination for fuzzy logic based predictions is seen to be higher than the re gression predicted ones, indicating better modeling capabilities of the artificial intelligence technique. ANOVA results reveal that the wear depth is mostly influenced by sliding speed followed by applied normal load and sliding duration for both dry and lubricated conditions. Coating composition, phase transformation and microstructure studies are undertaken to analyze their effects on the wear behavior. Abrasive wear mechanism is seen to be the predominating under both dry and lubricated condition. The c oatings are seen to suffer more wear under dry sliding condition compared to lubricated environment .

Abrasive wear behaviour of orange peel (biowaste) particulate reinforced polymer composites

The present study investigates the significance of different coating process parameters on the corrosion behaviour of electrolessly deposited Ni-P-W coatings on mild steel substrate. The process parameters considered are concentration of nickel source, concentration of reducing agent, concentration of tungsten source and annealing temperature. The corrosion characteristic is evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technique. The responses considered are charge transfer resistance and double layer capacitance. The Taguchi technique coupled with grey analysis is employed to find out the optimum combination of the process parameters for better corrosion resistance. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) reveals the contribution of the process parameters on the corrosion property of Ni-P-W coating. Finally a validation test is performed to justify the experimental result. The microstructure of the surface is studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM); energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDX) reveals the chemical composition and the x-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) is used to identify the phase transformation behaviour of the coating .
