This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for \"experimenters\") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment. It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. Electroless nickel, alloy, composite and nano coatings – A critical review

Magnesium-based metal matrix nanocomposites (MMNCs) are new class materials which can be used widely in aerospace, biomedical, electronics and automobile industries due to their low density, sustainability, good specific strength and better tribological properties. Performance of MMNCs depends on several factors, i.e., composition and combination of reinforcement, processing methods, etc. Present study tries to review available literatures to discuss about the role of those factors on mechanical properties, tribological properties and corrosion behaviors of magnesium-based MMNCs. In this study, liquid metallurgy-based primary processing methods and secondary methods are discussed in details with the help of available literatures. Roles of ultrasonic treatment, cavitation and acoustic streaming on distribution of nanoparticles are discussed in details. Strengthening mechanisms between particle and matrix metal are also presented. Effects of particles like Al2O3, SiC, WC, TiB2, CNT on mechanical, tribological and corrosion behavior are discussed. Mechanical properties (UTS, YS, microhardness, creep behavior) are mainly discussed and available literatures revealed that the presence of nanoparticles normally enhance these properties. Literature on tribological behavior yielded that nanoparticles help to enhance wear and friction behavior of Mg-MMNCs at room and elevated temperatures. Effects of tribological parameters (load, sliding speed, sliding distance) are also discussed. But researchers are split into two groups about corrosion characteristics of magnesium composites. Some researchers reported that corrosion resistance is decreased due to presence of reinforcement while others concluded that corrosion resistance is enhanced due to reinforcing particles.

Corrosion and lubricated sliding tribological behavior of Al-TiB 2 -nano Gr hybrid composites

The present study evaluates the corrosion behavior of Al–TiB2 metal matrix composites in 3.5% NaCl solution. Composites are fabricated using stir-casting with varying wt.% of TiB2. Composite surfaces are characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. Micro-hardness values of composites are obtained using a Vicker's micro-hardness tester. The hardness of the base matrix is enhanced due to the incorporation of hard TiB2 phase. Corrosion characteristics of composites are investigated using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. Corrosion resistance of composites is estimated from the parameters such as corrosion potential, corrosion current, linear polarization resistance etc. Corrosion resistance of the base alloy improves due to incorporation of TiB2 but only up to a certain amount of TiB2 phase in the matrix. Corrosion behavior of stir-cast Al–TiB2 metal matrix composites

The present study outlines the use of Taguchi parameter design to minimize the wear performance of Al-TiB2 metal matrix composites by optimizing tribological process parameters. Different weight percentages of micro-TiB2 powders with average sizes of 5-40 micron are incorporated into molten LM4 aluminium matrix by stir casting method. The wear performance of Al-TiB2 composites is evaluated in a block-on-roller type Multitribo tester at room temperature. Three parameters viz. weight percentage of TiB2, load and speed are considered with three levels each at the time of experiment. A L27 orthogonal array is used to carry out experiments accommodating all the factors and their levels including their interaction effects. Optimal combination of parameters for wear performance is obtained by Taguchi analysis. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to find out percentage contribution of each parameter and their interaction also on wear performance. Weight percentage of TiB2 is forced to be the most effective parameter in controlling wear behaviour of Al-TiB2 metal matrix composite.
