Journal ArticleDOI

Metabolic engineering towards biotechnological production of carotenoids in microorganisms

TL;DR: This review will describe the recent progress made in metabolic engineering of non-carotenogenic microorganisms for improved carotenoid productivity and discuss the application of combinatorial and evolutionary strategies to carOTenoid pathway engineering to broaden the diversity of carotanoid structures synthesized in recombinant hosts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Succinic acid production with reduced by-product formation in the fermentation of Anaerobiospirillum succiniciproducens using glycerol as a carbon source.

TL;DR: Succinic acid can be produced with much less by-product formation by using glycerol as a carbon source, which will facilitate its purification, according to the gram ratio of succinic acid to acetic acid.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ethanol production from marine algal hydrolysates using Escherichia coli KO11.

TL;DR: The strategy of acid hydrolysis followed by simultaneous enzyme treatment and inoculation with E. coli KO11 could be a viable strategy to produce ethanol from marine alga biomass.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biosynthesis of plant-specific stilbene polyketides in metabolically engineered Escherichia coli

TL;DR: Phenylpropionic acids, such as 4-coumaric acid and caffeic acid, can be efficiently converted to stilbene compounds by recombinant E. coli cells expressing plant biosynthetic genes and optimization of precursor conversion and cyclization of the bulky ferulic acid precursor by host metabolic engineering and protein engineering may afford the synthesis of even more structurally diverse stilBene compounds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Batch and continuous fermentation of succinic acid from wood hydrolysate by Mannheimia succiniciproducens MBEL55E

TL;DR: In this paper, Mannheimia succiniciproducens MBEL55E was used for the production of succinic acid in a complex medium containing a NaOH-treated wood hydrolysate.
