Journal ArticleDOI
Endometriosis: an inflammatory disease with a Th2 immune response component
Sergio Podgaec,Mauricio Simões Abrão,João Antonio Dias,Luiz Vicente Rizzo,R. de Oliveira,Edmund Chada Baracat +5 more
TL;DR: Endometriosis is an inflammatory disease involving a possible shift towards Th1 and Th2 immune response component, as demonstrated by the relative increase in cytokines characteristic of this pattern of immune response.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuroanatomical approaches of the tectum-reticular pathways and immunohistochemical evidence for serotonin-positive perikarya on neuronal substrates of the superior colliculus and periaqueductal gray matter involved in the elaboration of the defensive behavior and fear-induced analgesia.
Norberto Cysne Coimbra,R. de Oliveira,Renato Leonardo de Freitas,S.J. Ribeiro,Karina Genaro Borelli,Karina Genaro Borelli,Rodolfo C. Pacagnella,J.E. Moreira,L. da Silva,L. da Silva,L.L. Melo,L.L. Melo,L.O. Lunardi,Marcus Lira Brandão +13 more
TL;DR: These findings support the contention that serotonin and GABAergic neurons may act in concert in the modulation of defense reaction in the midbrain tectum, and indicate a direct neural pathway connecting the dorsal midbrain and monoaminergic nuclei of the descending pain inhibitory system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vascular endothelial growth factor concentrations in the serum and peritoneal fluid of women with endometriosis.
A. Pupo-Nogueira,R. de Oliveira,Carlos Alberto Petta,Sergio Podgaec,João Antonio Dias,Mauricio Simões Abrão +5 more
TL;DR: Measuring VEGF levels in symptomatic patients is not helpful to differentiate those with endometriosis from those with a different condition, however, in the late secretory and menstrual phases, mean V EGF levels were higher in women with confirmed endometiosis than in those suspected of having the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
A deficiency of interstitial cells of Cajal in Chagasic megacolon
TL;DR: In this paper, the density of interstitial cells of Cajal was assessed in the longitudinal and circular muscle layers, and in the intermuscular plane of the Chagasic and normal colon.
Journal ArticleDOI
Functional and ultrastructural neuroanatomy of interactive intratectal/tectonigral mesencephalic opioid inhibitory links and nigrotectal GABAergic pathways: involvement of GABAA and mu1-opioid receptors in the modulation of panic-like reactions elicited by electrical stimulation of the dorsal midbrain.
S.J. Ribeiro,J.G. Ciscato,R. de Oliveira,R.C. de Oliveira,R. D’Ângelo-Dias,Anita Abreu de Carvalho,Tatiana Tocchini Felippotti,E.C.C. Rebouças,Lissandra Castellan-Baldan,Anette Hoffmann,Sônia A. L. Corrêa,Sônia A. L. Corrêa,J.E. Moreira,N.C. Coimbra +13 more
TL;DR: Evidence is offered of a neuroanatomical basis of a pre-synaptic opioid inhibition of GABAergic nigrotectal neurons modulating fear in defensive behavior-related structures of the cranial mesencephalon through a major neural circuit.
