Journal ArticleDOI

Human neutrophil collagenase (matrix metalloproteinase 8) in parturition, premature rupture of the membranes, and intrauterine infection.

TL;DR: Spontaneous human parturition was associated with a significant increase in amniotic fluid concentrations of MMP-8 in both term and preterm gestation, and patients with preterm labor who delivered preterm had a significantly higher median amniotics fluid M MP-8 concentration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evidence of in vivo differential bioavailability of the active forms of matrix metalloproteinases 9 and 2 in parturition, spontaneous rupture of membranes, and intra-amniotic infection.

TL;DR: The authors' observations provide evidence for a novel regulation of gelatinolytic activity in vivo and explore the participation of these enzymes in labor, rupture of membranes, and microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity.
Journal ArticleDOI

The tumor necrosis factor α and its soluble receptor profile in term and preterm parturition

TL;DR: Observations provide support for the thesis that preterm parturition is a pathologic condition and increased tumor necrosis factor α soluble receptor concentrations may attenuate the deleterious effects of the excess of tumor necrot factor α found in pathologic labor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Neutrophil elastase and secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor in prelabor rupture of membranes, parturition and intra-amniotic infection.

TL;DR: Neutrophil elastase (NE), a multifunctional serine protease stored in azurophilic granules of mature neutrophils, is capable of intracellular degradation of proteins during phagocytosis and extracellular degrade of connective tissue during an inflammatory process.
