Missing value imputation (MVI) has been studied for several decades being the basic solution method for incomplete dataset problems, specifically those where some data samples contain one or more missing attribute values. This paper aims at reviewing and analyzing related studies carried out in recent decades, from the experimental design perspective. Altogether, 111 journal papers published from 2006 to 2017 are reviewed and analyzed. In addition, several technical issues encountered during the MVI process are addressed, such as the choice of datasets, missing rates and missingness mechanisms, and the MVI techniques and evaluation metrics employed, are discussed. The results of analysis of these issues allow limitations in the existing body of literature to be identified based upon which some directions for future research can be gleaned.

Missing value imputation: a review and analysis of the literature (2006–2017)

of the important stages of data mining is preprocessing, where the data is prepared for different mining tasks. Often, the real-world data tends to be incomplete, noisy, and inconsistent. It is very common that the data are not obtainable for every observation of every variable. So the presence of missing variables is obvious in the data set. A most important task when preprocessing the data is, to fill in missing values, smooth out noise and correct inconsistencies. This paper presents the missing value problem in data mining and evaluates some of the methods generally used for missing value imputation. In this work, three simple missing value imputation methods are implemented namely (1) Constant substitution, (2) Mean attribute value substitution and (3) Random attribute value substitution. The performance of the three missing value imputation algorithms were measured with respect to different rate or different percentage of missing values in the data set by using some known clustering methods. To evaluate the performance, the standard WDBC data set has been used.

Evaluation of three Simple Imputation Methods for Enhancing Preprocessing of Data with Missing Values

Enormous advance has proven throughout the years in the area of traffic surveillance by the growth of intelligent traffic video surveillance system. In the current work, through the traffic videos, the traffic video surveillance automatically keyed out the vehicles like ambulance and trucks, which in turn assisted us in directing the vehicles at the time of emergency. Nevertheless, it doesn’t provide us a vital solution for the regulating the traffic. Moreover, this idea just identifies the vehicles, but it couldn’t notice the accidents expeditiously. Therefore in the proposed work, expeditious traffic video surveillance and monitoring system are presented along with dynamic traffic signal control and accident detection mechanism. Hybrid median filter has been utilized at the beginning for pre-processing of traffic videos, and to remove the noise. Hybrid support vector machine (SVM with extended Kalman filter) has been utilized to chase the vehicles. Next, the histogram of flow gradient features are drew-out to categories the vehicles. According to the traffic density and through video files, vehicles are computed, and then for emergency vehicles, the traffic signal gets switched dynamically. To realize the arrival of ambulances, the cameras have been set to catch traffic videos minimum at 500 m of the signal and deep learning neural networks has been employed. Hence dynamic signal control has been incorporated expeditiously. Likewise, multinomial logistic regression has been utilized in real-time live streaming videos, to identify the accidents correctly. The observational solution shows that the proposed intelligent traffic video surveillance system render expeditious dynamic control of traffic signals and it raises the identification of accidents correctly.

Intelligent traffic video surveillance and accident detection system with dynamic traffic signal control

Data mining is a process of extracting previously unknown knowledge and detecting the interesting patterns from a massive set of data. Thanks to the extensive use of information technology and the recent developments in multimedia systems, the amount of multimedia data available to users has increased exponentially. Video is an example of multimedia data as it contains several kinds of data such as text, image, meta-data, visual and audio. It is widely used in many major potential applications like security and surveillance, entertainment, medicine, education programs and sports. The objective of video data mining is to discover and describe interesting patterns from the huge amount of video data as it is one of the core problem areas of the data-mining research community. Compared to the mining of other types of data, video data mining is still in its infancy. There are many challenging research problems existing with video mining. Beginning with an overview of the video data-mining literature, this paper concludes with the applications of video mining.

A study on video data mining

Fraud is increasing with the extensive use of internet and the increase of online transactions. More advanced solutions are desired to protect financial service companies and credit card holders from constantly evolving online fraud attacks. The main objective of this paper is to construct an efficient fraud detection system which is adaptive to the behavior changes by combining classification and clustering techniques. This is a two stage fraud detection system which compares the incoming transaction against the transaction history to identify the anomaly using BOAT algorithm in the first stage. In second stage to reduce the false alarm rate suspected anomalies are checked with the fraud history database and make sure that the detected anomalies are due to fraudulent transaction or any short term change in spending profile. In this work BOAT supports incremental update of transactional database and it handles maximum fraud coverage with high speed and less cost. Proposed model is evaluated on both synthetically generated and real life data and shows very good accuracy in detecting fraud transaction.

The digital revolution and the explosive growth of the Internet have helped the collection of huge amounts of useful data of diverse characteristics, which is a valuable and intangible asset in any business of today. Soft Computing Applications for Database Technologies: Techniques and Issues treats the new, emerging discipline of soft computing, which exploits this data through tolerance for imprecision and uncertainty to achieve solutions for complex problems.
