The Role of the Canine Gut Microbiome and Metabolome in Health and Gastrointestinal Disease

TL;DR: A recently developed PCR-based algorithm termed “Dysbiosis Index” is a tool that allows veterinarians to quantify gut dysbiosis and can be used to monitor disease progression and response to treatment, and strategies to manipulate the gut microbiome may be useful for GI related diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hygienic and health characteristics of donkey milk during a follow-up study.

TL;DR: The results of this study confirmed the low prevalence of intramammary infections in donkey and the absence of food-borne pathogens, suggesting that donkey milk could be a safe food, if the mammary gland is healthy and the animals are milked in proper hygienic conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

The autophagic machinery ensures nonlytic transmission of mycobacteria.

TL;DR: This study explains how the host cell remains intact and alive while Mycobacterium marinum breaks through its plasma membrane during ejection, and reveals an unexpected function for the autophagic machinery in nonlytic spreading of bacteria.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fecal Microbial and Metabolic Profiles in Dogs With Acute Diarrhea Receiving Either Fecal Microbiota Transplantation or Oral Metronidazole.

TL;DR: Fecal consistency improved significantly in dogs treated with FMT and MET by day 7 and day 28, while Dogs treated with MET still had altered microbial and metabolic profiles at day 28 compared to dogs treatedwith FMT or healthy dogs.
