Journal ArticleDOI
The anti-allergic activity of Cymbopogon citratus is mediated via inhibition of nuclear factor kappa B (Nf-Κb) activation
Marta Santos Serafim Machado,Hugo Bernardino Ferreira Silva,Raimon Rios,Anaque Pires de Oliveira,Noma Vilany Queiroz Carneiro,Ryan Santos Costa,William Santos Alves,Fabio-Luis Meneses Souza,Eudes da Silva Velozo,Silvana Alves de Souza,Tania M. S. Silva,Maria de L. e Silva,Lain Pontes-de-Carvalho,Neuza Maria Alcântara-Neves,Camila Alexandrina Figueiredo +14 more
TL;DR: The results presented demonstrate the potential of the Cy hexane extract to modulate allergic asthma; this extract may be an alternative future approach to treat this pathology.
Journal ArticleDOI
A genome-wide association study of severe asthma exacerbations in Latino children and adolescents
Qi Yan,Erick Forno,Esther Herrera-Luis,Maria Pino-Yanes,Maria Pino-Yanes,Cancan Qi,Raimon Rios,Yueh-Ying Han,Soyeon Kim,Sam S. Oh,Edna Acosta-Pérez,Rong Zhang,Donglei Hu,Celeste Eng,Scott Huntsman,Lydiana Avila,Nadia Boutaoui,Michelle M. Cloutier,Manuel E. Soto-Quiros,Cheng-Jian Xu,Scott T. Weiss,Jessica Lasky-Su,Megan R. Kiedrowski,Camila Alexandrina Figueiredo,Jennifer M. Bomberger,Mauricio Lima Barreto,Glorisa Canino,Wei Chen,Gerard H. Koppelman,Esteban G. Burchard,Juan C. Celedón +30 more
TL;DR: A novel SNP in FLJ22447 is significantly associated with both severe asthma exacerbations in Latino youth and DNA methylation of a cis-CpG in nasal epithelium, which is linked to nasal epithelial expression of a gene implicated in atopic asthma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Solanum paniculatum L. decreases levels of inflammatory cytokines by reducing NFKB, TBET and GATA3 gene expression in vitro.
Raimon Rios,Hugo Bernardino Ferreira Silva,Norma Vilany Queiroz Carneiro,Anaque Oliveira Pires,Tamires Cana Brasil Carneiro,Ryan Santos Costa,Cintia Rodrigues Marques,Marta Santos Serafim Machado,Eudes da Silva Velozo,Telma Maria Guedes da Silva,Tania M. S. Silva,Adilva de Souza Conceição,Neuza Maria Alcântara-Neves,Camila Alexandrina Figueiredo +13 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided for the popular use of S. paniculatum in inflammatory conditions and the mechanism whereby SpE decreased inflammatory markers may be related to the reduction of NFKB, TBET and GATA3 gene expression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multi‐ancestry genome‐wide association study of asthma exacerbations
Esther Herrera-Luis,Victor Ortega,Elizabeth J. TL;DR: This work aimed to identify common genetic loci associated with asthma exacerbations across diverse populations and to assess their functional role in regulating DNA methylation and gene expression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Understanding and controlling asthma in Latin America: A review of recent research informed by the SCAALA programme
Philip J. Cooper,Camila Alexandrina Figueiredo,Alejandro Rodriguez,Letícia Marques dos Santos,Rita de Cássia Ribeiro-Silva,Valdirene Leão Carneiro,Gustavo No Costa,Thiago Magalhães,Talita DOS SANTOS DE JESUS,Raimon Rios,Hugo Bernardino Ferreira Silva,R. Costa,Martha E. Chico,Maritza Vaca,Neuza Maria Alcantara-Neves,Laura C. Rodrigues,Alvaro A. Cruz,Mauricio Lima Barreto +17 more
TL;DR: The attenuation of atopy may be explained by enhanced immune regulation induced by intense exposures to environmental factors such as childhood infections and poor environmental conditions of the urban poor in Latin America as mentioned in this paper .
