Aspect] is a simple and practical aspect-oriented extension to Java With just a few new constructs, AspectJ provides support for modular implementation of a range of crosscutting concerns. In AspectJ's dynamic join point model, join points are well-defined points in the execution of the program; pointcuts are collections of join points; advice are special method-like constructs that can be attached to pointcuts; and aspects are modular units of crosscutting implementation, comprising pointcuts, advice, and ordinary Java member declarations. AspectJ code is compiled into standard Java bytecode. Simple extensions to existing Java development environments make it possible to browse the crosscutting structure of aspects in the same kind of way as one browses the inheritance structure of classes. Several examples show that AspectJ is powerful, and that programs written using it are easy to understand.

A Break in the Clouds: Towards a Cloud Definition

The use of flying platforms such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), popularly known as drones, is rapidly growing. In particular, with their inherent attributes such as mobility, flexibility, and adaptive altitude, UAVs admit several key potential applications in wireless systems. On the one hand, UAVs can be used as aerial base stations to enhance coverage, capacity, reliability, and energy efficiency of wireless networks. On the other hand, UAVs can operate as flying mobile terminals within a cellular network. Such cellular-connected UAVs can enable several applications ranging from real-time video streaming to item delivery. In this paper, a comprehensive tutorial on the potential benefits and applications of UAVs in wireless communications is presented. Moreover, the important challenges and the fundamental tradeoffs in UAV-enabled wireless networks are thoroughly investigated. In particular, the key UAV challenges such as 3D deployment, performance analysis, channel modeling, and energy efficiency are explored along with representative results. Then, open problems and potential research directions pertaining to UAV communications are introduced. Finally, various analytical frameworks and mathematical tools, such as optimization theory, machine learning, stochastic geometry, transport theory, and game theory are described. The use of such tools for addressing unique UAV problems is also presented. In a nutshell, this tutorial provides key guidelines on how to analyze, optimize, and design UAV-based wireless communication systems.

A Tutorial on UAVs for Wireless Networks: Applications, Challenges, and Open Problems

Modern day wireless networks have tremendously evolved driven by a sharp increase in user demands, continuously requesting more data and services. This puts significant strain on infrastructure-based macro cellular networks due to the inefficiency in handling these traffic demands, cost effectively. A viable solution is the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as intermediate aerial nodes between the macro and small cell tiers for improving coverage and boosting capacity. This letter investigates the problem of user-demand-based UAV assignment over geographical areas subject to high traffic demands. A neural-based cost function approach is formulated, in which UAVs are matched to a particular geographical area. It is shown that leveraging multiple UAVs not only provides long-range connectivity but also better load balancing and traffic offload. Simulation study demonstrates that the proposed approach yields significant improvements in terms of fifth percentile spectral efficiency up to 38% and reduced delays up to 37.5% compared with a ground-based network baseline without UAVs.

UAV-Assisted Heterogeneous Networks for Capacity Enhancement

Cloud computing plays a vital role in processing a large amount of data. However, with the arrival of the Internet of Things, huge data are generated from these devices. Thus, there is the need for bringing characteristics of cloud closer to the request generator, so that processing of these huge data takes place at one-hop distance closer to that end user. This led to the emergence of fog computing with the aim to provide storage and computation at the edge of the network that reduces network traffic and overcomes many cloud computing drawbacks. Fog computing technology helps to overcome challenges of big data processing. The paper discusses the taxonomy of fog computing, how this is different from cloud computing and edge computing technologies, its applications, emerging key technologies (i.e., communication technologies and storage technologies) and various challenges involved in fog technology.

This paper presents implementation of elastic matching technique to recognize online handwritten Gurmukhi characters. We have discussed a process that recognizes characters in two stages. First stage recognizes the strokes, in second stage, character is evaluated on the basis of recognized strokes. Feature are computed to strengthen recognition results. Also, we have discussed a simple way to store data for handwritten strokes and characters. The database for strokes stores script number, stroke number and stroke sample number for every point of a stroke. For 60 writer's and a set of 41 Gurmukhi characters, we have obtained recognition rate as 90.08%.

Online Handwritten Gurmukhi Character Recognition Using Elastic Matching

Cooperative ad hoc networks are becoming very important in various military and civilian applications. The interfacing between different ad hoc networks provides large applications in field of surveillance, navigation, disaster monitoring and homeland security. This paper focuses on implementation of UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles) ad hoc network that forms a guidance system for ground ad hoc network. The network framework proposed in the paper uses neural network to form cognitive and topology maps. Indirect and Bayesian Kalman Filter are used for estimations. These estimations allows updating of pre-constructed cognitive map to form ideal final search map that is shared among all nodes to perform search and track operations. The analysis showed that the proposed framework is capable of forming a search maps that is able to define multiple way points for each UAV in the network to follow a non-redundant path for searching and identifying various user nodes and geographical territories. The effectiveness of the model is demonstrated using simulations.

A Cooperative Network Framework for Multi-UAV Guided Ground Ad Hoc Networks

Software reuse has been used as a tool to reduce the development cost and time of the software. Nowadays, in fact, majority of software systems are being developed from an assembly of existing reusable components. In order to assess the reuse of components effectively, it is necessary to measure the reusability of these components. Paper proposes Artificial Neural Network based approach to assess the reusability of software component. This work will help developers to select the best component in terms of its reusability, which will improve the maintainability of the overall system.
