Journal ArticleDOI
Liver Transplant Using Donors After Unexpected Cardiac Death: Novel Preservation Protocol and Acceptance Criteria
Constantino Fondevila,Amelia J. Hessheimer,Angel Recio Ruiz,David Calatayud,J. Ferrer,Ramón Charco,Josep Fuster,M. Navasa,A. Rimola,Pilar Taura,Pere Ginès,Martí Manyalich,Juan-Carlos García-Valdecasas +12 more
TL;DR: Though considered marginal, unexpected DCD can represent an important source of viable livers for transplant if strict acceptance criteria are employed and they are maintained with NECMO prior to recovery.
Journal Article
Risk factors for acute renal failure requiring dialysis after liver transplantation.
Itxarone Bilbao,Ramón Charco,J. Balsells,J. L. Lazaro,Ernest Hidalgo,L. Llopart,E. Murio,Carlos Margarit +7 more
TL;DR: ARF is a severe complication post-LT; its appearance could be predicted in patients with pre-transplant renal dysfunction, severe graft dysfunction, or both, however, in many cases renal function may revert to normal if treated aggressively with early dialysis support.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of DAAs on liver transplantation: Major effects on the evolution of indications and results. An ELITA study based on the ELTR registry.
Luca S. Belli,Giovanni Perricone,René Adam,Paolo Cortesi,Mario Strazzabosco,Rita Facchetti,Vincent Karam,Mauro Salizzoni,Rafael López Andújar,C. Fondevila,Paolo De Simone,C. Morelli,Joan Fabregat-Prous,Didier Samuel,Kosh Agarwaal,Enrique Moreno Gonzales,Ramón Charco,Krzysztof Zieniewicz,Luciano De Carlis,Christophe Duvoux +19 more
TL;DR: In Europe, the number of LTs due to HCV infection is rapidly declining for bothHCV-DC and HCV-HCC indications and post-LT survival has dramatically improved over the last three years, and is now comparable to the survival of recipients with HBV infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Normothermic regional perfusion vs. super-rapid recovery in controlled donation after circulatory death liver transplantation.
Amelia J. Hessheimer,Elisabeth Coll,Ferran Torres,Patricia Ruiz,Mikel Gastaca,José Ignacio Rivas,Manuel Gómez,B. Sanchez,Julio Santoyo,Pablo Ramírez,Pascual Parrilla,Luis Miguel Marín,Miguel Ángel Gómez-Bravo,Juan Carlos García-Valdecasas,Javier López-Monclús,Andrea Boscá,Rafael López-Andújar,Jiliam Fundora-Suárez,Jesús Villar,Álvaro García-Sesma,Carlos Jiménez,G. Rodriguez-Laiz,Laura Lladó,Juan Carlos Rodríguez,Manuel Barrera,Ramón Charco,Jose Ángel López-Baena,Javier Briceño,Fernando Pardo,Gerardo Blanco,David Pacheco,Beatriz Domínguez-Gil,Víctor Sánchez Turrión,Constantino Fondevila +33 more
TL;DR: The study results suggest that the use of postmortem normothermic regional perfusion helps reduce rates of post-transplant biliary complications and graft loss and allows for the successful transplantation of livers from older cDCD donors of advanced age.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma or mixed hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma in patients undergoing liver transplantation: a Spanish matched cohort multicenter study
G. Sapisochin,C. Rodríguez de Lope,Mikel Gastaca,J. Ortiz de Urbina,Rafael López-Andújar,F. Palacios,Emilio Ramos,Joan Fabregat,J.F. Castroagudin,Evaristo Varo,José Antonio Pons,Pascual Parrilla,M.L. González-Diéguez,Macarena Rodriguez,Alejandra Otero,Mercedes Vázquez,Gabriel Zozaya,J.I. Herrero,G. Sanchez Antolin,B. Perez,Ruben Ciria,S. Rufian,Y. Fundora,J. A. Ferron,A. Guiberteau,Gerardo Blanco,M. A. Varona,M. A. Barrera,M. A. Suarez,Julio Santoyo,Jordi Bruix,Ramón Charco +31 more
TL;DR: Patients with HCC-CC have similar survival to patients undergoing a transplant for HCC and preoperative diagnosis of HCC should not prompt the exclusion of these patients from transplant option.
