Journal ArticleDOI
Association of Promoter Variants in the α7 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Subunit Gene With an Inhibitory Deficit Found in Schizophrenia
Sherry Leonard,Judith Gault,Jan Hopkins,Judith Logel,Ruby Vianzon,Margaret Short,Carla Drebing,Ralph Berger,Diana Venn,Pinkhas Sirota,Gary O. Zerbe,Ann Olincy,Randal G. Ross,Lawrence E. Adler,Robert Freedman +14 more
TL;DR: Although linkage disequilibrium with other genetic alterations cannot be excluded, the CHRNA7 core promoter variants, found in this study, may contribute to a common pathophysiologic feature of schizophrenia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Familial Aggregation in Specific Language Impairment
TL;DR: Group data showed impairment rates estimated from the family-history questionnaires to be similar to the rates based on actual testing, and case-by-case analyses showed poor intrasubject agreement on classification as language impaired on the basis of current testing as compared to history information.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hair cortisol levels as a retrospective marker of hypothalamic-pituitary axis activity throughout pregnancy: Comparison to salivary cortisol
TL;DR: Levels of cortisol in hair are a valid and useful tool to measure long-term cortisol activity and is a reliable metric of HPA activity throughout pregnancy reflecting total cortisol release over an extended period.
Journal ArticleDOI
Varied effects of atypical neuroleptics on P50 auditory gating in schizophrenia patients
Lawrence E. Adler,Ann Olincy,Ellen Cawthra,Kara A. McRae,Josette G. Harris,Herbert T. Nagamoto,Merilyne C. Waldo,Mei-Hua Hall,Amanda Bowles,Laurie Woodward,Randal G. Ross,Robert Freedman +11 more
TL;DR: Improvement in P50 gating appears to be greatest in patients treated with clozapine, and this study sought to determine whether other atypical neuroleptics improve P50 ratios.
Journal ArticleDOI
Smoking and schizophrenia : abnormal nicotinic receptor expression
Sherry Leonard,Sherry Leonard,Charles R. Breese,Catherine E. Adams,Khalid Benhammou,Judith Gault,Karen E. Stevens,Michael J. Lee,Lawrence E. Adler,Ann Olincy,Randal G. Ross,Robert Freedman,Robert Freedman +12 more
TL;DR: The results of these studies suggest the presence of abnormal expression and function of the neuronal nicotinic receptor gene family in schizophrenia.
