Journal ArticleDOI

Determination of phenols, flavones, and lignans in virgin olive oils by solid-phase extraction and high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array ultraviolet detection.

TL;DR: The colorimetric determination of total o-diphenolic compounds by reaction with molybdate was consistent with their HPLC determination and 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl acetate was detected in olive oils for the first time.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determination of malondialdehyde (MDA) by high-performance liquid chromatography in serum and liver as a biomarker for oxidative stress: Application to a rat model for hypercholesterolemia and evaluation of the effect of diets rich in phenolic antioxidants from fruits

TL;DR: In this article, a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method to determine malondialdehyde (MDA) as the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) derivative was applied to biological samples (serum and liver homogenates).
Journal ArticleDOI

Bioactive compounds in wine: Resveratrol, hydroxytyrosol and melatonin: A review

TL;DR: This review is focused on three of the numerous bioactive compounds present in wine: resveratrol, hydroxytyrosol and melatonin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dietary fibre composition, antioxidant capacity and physico-chemical properties of a fibre-rich product from cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.)

TL;DR: In this paper, the proximate composition and dietary fibre content of a fibre-rich product obtained from cocoa were studied, which contained 60.54% (dry matter basis) of DF, made of mainly insoluble fibre although with appreciable amounts of soluble dietary fibre (10.09% d.m.).
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of quercetin and rutin on growth and antioxidant defense system of a human hepatoma cell line (HepG2).

TL;DR: The results indicate that both natural antioxidants induce favorable changes in the antioxidant defense system of cultured HepG2 that prevent or delay conditions which favor cellular oxidative stress.
