Journal ArticleDOI
Lipoprotein lipase does not affect lipoprotein (a) levels in normotriglyceridemic patients.
TL;DR: In subjects with hypertriglyceridemia, lipoprotein (a) plasma levels are apparently reduced probably due to an increased clearance from plasma of this lipoprotein, and Lipoprotein lipase plays a key role in the catabolism of very-low-density lipoproteins and chylomicrons.
Journal Article
Abstract 21508: Hepatic Steatosis, Obesity and the Metabolic Syndrome Are Independently and Additively Associated With Increased Systemic Inflammation
Chiadi E Ndumele,Khurram Nasir,Raquel D. Conceição,Jose A.M. Carvalho,Roger S. Blumenthal,Raul D. Santos +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a multivariate logistic regression was used to assess the independent and collective associations of hepatic steatosis, obesity, and metabolic syndrome with elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Statin Eligibility in Primary Prevention: From a Risk-Based Strategy to a Personalized Approach Based on the Predicted Benefit
Fernando H. Y. Cesena,Antonio G. Laurinavicius,Viviane A. Valente,Raquel D. Conceição,Khurram Nasir,Raul D. Santos,Márcio Sommer Bittencourt +6 more
TL;DR: Switching from a risk-based strategy to a benefit-based approach, while keeping the same rate of statin use in the population, is expected to promote substantial changes in statin eligibility in subjects at intermediate cardiovascular risk, modifying the subpopulation to be benefited by the treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neck circumference is associated with non-traditional cardiovascular risk factors in individuals at low-to-moderate cardiovascular risk: cross-sectional analysis of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil)
Bianca de Almeida-Pititto,Isis Tande da Silva,Alessandra C. Goulart,Marília I.H. Fonseca,Márcio Sommer Bittencourt,Raul D. Santos,Michael J. Blaha,Steven P. Jones,Peter P. Toth,K. Kulakarni,Paulo A. Lotufo,Isabela M. Benseñor,Sandra Roberta Gouvea Ferreira +12 more
TL;DR: The findings indicate that measurement of NC may be useful for an earlier identification of unfavorable atherogenic metabolic profile in middle-aged individuals at lower cardiovascular risk level.
