HLA-Haploidentical Bone Marrow Transplantation for Hematologic Malignancies Using Nonmyeloablative Conditioning and High-Dose, Posttransplantation Cyclophosphamide
Leo Luznik,Paul O'Donnell,Paul O'Donnell,Heather J. Symons,Allen R. Chen,M. Susan Leffell,Marianna Zahurak,Ted Gooley,Ted Gooley,S Piantadosi,Michele Kaup,Richard F. Ambinder,Carol Ann Huff,William Matsui,Javier Bolaños-Meade,Ivan Borrello,Jonathan D. Powell,Elizabeth Harrington,Sandy Warnock,Mary E.D. Flowers,Mary E.D. Flowers,Robert A. Brodsky,Brenda M. Sandmaier,Brenda M. Sandmaier,Rainer Storb,Rainer Storb,Richard J. Jones,Ephraim J. Fuchs +27 more
TL;DR: Nonmyeloablative HLA-haploidentical BMT with posttransplantation Cy is associated with acceptable rates of fatal graft failure and severe aGVHD or cGVHD, and there was a trend toward a lower risk of extensive chronic GVHD (cGVHD) among recipients of 2 versus 1 dose of posttrans transplantation Cy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of clonogenic multiple myeloma cells
William Matsui,Carol Ann Huff,Qiuju Wang,Matthew T Malehorn,James Barber,Yvette C. Tanhehco,B. Douglas Smith,Curt I. Civin,Richard J. Jones +8 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that MM "stem cells" are CD138- B cells with the ability to replicate and subsequently differentiate into malignant CD138+ plasma cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Venoocclusive disease of the liver following bone marrow transplantation
Richard J. Jones,Kamthorn S. K. Lee,William E. Beschorner,Victor G. Vogel,Louise B. Grochow,Hayden G. Braine,Georgia B. Vogelsang,Lyle L. Sensenbrenner,George W. Santos,Rein Saral +9 more
TL;DR: VOD is a common complication of bone marrow transplantation and has a specific clinical presentation, which usually allows diagnosis without the need of liver biopsy, and is the third leading cause of death in allogeneic graft recipients, and the second leading cause in patients receiving autologous transplants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cyclophosphamide and cancer: golden anniversary.
TL;DR: The chemistry, pharmacology, clinical toxic effects and current clinical applications of cyclophosphamide in cancer and autoimmune disorders, and the development of high-dose cycloph phosphamide for BMT and the treatment of autoimmune diseases are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Decreased erythropoietin response in patients with the anemia of cancer.
TL;DR: It is concluded that erythropoietin levels are inappropriately low in anemia associated with cancer, and that eriespheric deficiency may contribute to the development of this form of anemia.
