Novel Peroxisome Proliferator-activated Receptor (PPAR) γ and PPARδ Ligands Produce Distinct Biological Effects
Joel Berger,Mark D. Leibowitz,Thomas W. Doebber,Alex Elbrecht,Bei Zhang,Gaochou Zhou,Chhabi Biswas,Catherine A. Cullinan,Nancy S. Hayes,Ying Li,Michael R. Tanen,John Ventre,Margaret Wu,Gregory D. Berger,Ralph T. Mosley,Robert W. Marquis,Conrad Santini,Soumya P. Sahoo,Richard L. Tolman,Roy G. Smith,David E. Moller +20 more
TL;DR: Novel, non-thiazolidinedione agonists for PPARγ and PPARδ that were identified by radioligand binding assays improve hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia in vivo and are able to potentiate preadipocyte differentiation.
Journal ArticleDOI
9-([2-hydroxy-1-(hydroxymethyl)ethoxy]methyl)guanine: a selective inhibitor of herpes group virus replication
A. K. Field,M.-E. M. Davies,C. M. Dewitt,Helen C. Perry,R. Liou,John I. Germershausen,John D. Karkas,W. T. Ashton,D. B. R. Johnston,Richard L. Tolman +9 more
TL;DR: 2'NDG was at least 10-fold more potent than acyclovir (ACV) in inhibition of human cytomegalovirus replication and Epstein-Barr virus-induced lymphocyte transformation and was about as effective as ACV in inhibited of herpes simplex viruses 1 and 2 and varicella zoster virus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of PPARδ alters lipid metabolism in db/db mice
Mark D. Leibowitz,Catherine Fievet,Nathalie Hennuyer,Julia Peinado-Onsurbe,Hélène Duez,Joel P. Berger,Catherine A. Cullinan,Carl P. Sparrow,Joanne Baffic,Gregory D. Berger,Conrad Santini,Robert W. Marquis,Richard L. Tolman,Roy G. Smith,David E. Moller,Johan Auwerx +15 more
TL;DR: It is shown that treatment of insulin resistant db/db mice with the PPARδ agonist L‐165 041, at doses that had no effect on either glucose or triglycerides, raised total plasma cholesterol concentrations, suggesting both that PPAR δ is involved in the regulation of cholesterol metabolism in db/ db mice and that PP ARδ ligands could potentially have therapeutic value.

Covalently-modified bacterial polysaccharides, stable covalent conjugates of such polysaccharides and immunogenic proteins with bigeneric spacers, and methods of preparing such polysaccharides and conjugates and of confirming covalency
TL;DR: Covalently modified bacterial polysaccharides and proteins, which are useful components of bacterial vaccines, can be found in this paper, and methods of preparing such poly-saccharide, proteins and conjugates and of confirming the covalency of the linkage between poly-charide and proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation by thymidine kinase and potent antiherpetic activity of 2′-nor-2′-deoxyguanosine (2′NDG)
TL;DR: In an in vivo comparison of 2′NDG with five other known antiherpetic agents including acyclovir for protection of mice against HSV-1 induced encephalitis, 2′ NDG was at least 60-fold more effective.
