Journal ArticleDOI
Oxidative Stress and Cardiac Remodeling: An Updated Edge.
TL;DR: Oxidative stress is considered a major stimulant for the signal transduction in cardiac cells pathological conditions, including inflammatory cytokines, and MAP kinase, which may help in opening a new avenue in preventive and curative procedures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolome-wide association study on ABCA7 indicates a role of ceramide metabolism in Alzheimer’s disease
Abbas Dehghan,Rui Pinto,Ibrahim Karaman,Jian-Jian Huang,Brenan R. Durainayagam,Mohsen Ghanbari,Areesha Nazeer,Qi Zhong,Sonia Liggi,Luke Whiley,Rima Mustafa,Miia Kivipelto,Alina Solomon,Tiia Ngandu,Takahisa Kanekiyo,Tomonori Aikawa,Carola I. Radulescu,Samuel J. Barnes,Gonçalo Graça,Elena Chekmeneva,Stephane Camuzeaux,Matthew R. Lewis,Manuja Kaluarachchi,M. Arfan Ikram,Elaine Holmes,Ioanna Tzoulaki,Paul M. Matthews,Julian L. Griffin,Paul Elliott +28 more
TL;DR: This work suggests that the risk for AD arising from functional variations in ABCA7 is mediated at least in part through ceramides, and modulation of their metabolism or downstream signaling may offer new therapeutic opportunities for AD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of Physician’s Knowledge in Jordan about the ACC/AHA Blood Cholesterol Guidelines
Abeer M Rababa'h,Rima Mustafa,Mo'ath Rabab'ah,Mohammad Ali Khasawneh,Mera A. Ababneh,Salma Khraisha,Salah E. Altarabsheh +6 more
TL;DR: There is an increasing need to evaluate the basis that health care providers are using to control dyslipidaemia, because the optimal management of dyslipidemia remains inadequate worldwide.
Posted ContentDOI
Evidence for Involvement of WDPCP Gene in Alcohol Consumption, Lipid Metabolism, and Liver Cirrhosis
Felix O’Farrell,Benjamin Aleyakpo,Rima Mustafa,Xiyun Jiang,Rui Pinto,Paul Elliott,Ioanna Tzoulaki,Abbas Dehghan,Samantha H. Y. Loh,Jeff W. Barclay,Luis M. Martins,Raha Pazoki +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors used mutations and/or RNA interference (RNAi) to suppress the expression of these genes in C. elegans and Drosophila and examined the effect of this suppression on ethanol consumption and on the sedative effects of ethanol.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolome-wide association study on physical activity
Maedeh Kojouri,Rui Pinto,Rima Mustafa,Jian Huang,He Gao,Paul Elliott,Ioanna Tzoulaki,Abbas Dehghan +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the associations between physical activity and small circulatory molecules, the metabolome, were examined to highlight relevant biological pathways and showed that higher vigorous physical activity was associated with higher plasma metabolites associated with self-reported physical activity.
