Journal ArticleDOI
Vitamin D status and its association with parathyroid hormone concentrations in women of child-bearing age living in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur.
Timothy J. Green,C M Skeaff,Jennifer E Rockell,Bernard J. Venn,A. Lambert,Joanne M. Todd,Geok Lin Khor,Su Peng Loh,Siti Muslimatun,Rina Agustina,Susan J. Whiting +10 more
TL;DR: It is estimated that 52 nmol/l was the threshold concentration for plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin D above which no further suppression of PTH occurred, and many women had a 25-Hydroxyv vitamin D below this concentration and may benefit from improved vitamin D status.
Journal ArticleDOI
Probiotics Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 and Lactobacillus casei CRL 431 Modestly Increase Growth, but Not Iron and Zinc Status, among Indonesian Children Aged 1–6 Years
Rina Agustina,Rina Agustina,Ingeborg M. J. Bovee-Oudenhoven,Widjaja Lukito,Umi Fahmida,Ondine van de Rest,Michael B. Zimmermann,Agus Firmansyah,Ratna Wulanti,Ruud Albers,Ellen G. H. M. van den Heuvel,Frans J. Kok +11 more
TL;DR: Independent from probiotics supplementation, regular milk calcium did not affect growth or iron and zinc status, whereas L. reuteri DSM 17938 modestly improved growth by increasing weight gain, WAZ changes, and weight and height velocity.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of early nutritional supplementation with a mixture of probiotic, prebiotic, fiber and micronutrients in infants with acute diarrhea in Indonesia.
Rina Agustina,Widjaja Lukito,Agus Firmansyah,Hartati Ningsih Suhardjo,Dewi Murniati,Jacques Bindels +5 more
TL;DR: The present study supports the evidence for the efficacy of a special anti-diarrhea infant formula containing probiotic, prebiotic, fiber and iron+zinc after oral rehydration by shortening the duration of infantile diarrhea in developing countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of probiotic supplementation on cognitive function in children and adolescents: a systematic review of randomised trials
TL;DR: The favourable effect of probiotic supplementation on cognitive function in children and adolescents was observed in one study with LGG supplementation by a risk reduction of developing ADHD or AS, and more long-term and follow-up trials using probiotics identifying the effect on cognition are warranted before routine use.
Journal ArticleDOI
Maternal Agency Influences the Prevalence of Diarrhea and Acute Respiratory Tract Infections Among Young Indonesian children
TL;DR: Maternal caretaking, especially agency, is strongly associated with lower prevalence of diarrhea and ARTIs in younger children, and interventions specifically designed to promote maternal autonomy and decision-making may lead to improved child health.
