Global relationships of Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) revealed using Bayesian analysis of mitochondrial COI DNA sequences
Laura M. Boykin,Robert G. Shatters,Rosemarie C. Rosell,Cindy L. McKenzie,Ruth Ann Bagnall,Paul J. De Barro,Donald R. Frohlich +6 more
TL;DR: The first well-resolved phylogeny for the Bemisia tabaci species complex was produced in this paper, showing 12 major wellresolved (0.70 posterior probability or above) genetic groups: B. tabaci (Mediterranean/Asia Minor/Africa), B.tabaci (Mao et al., 2014) and B.Tabaci (Uganda sweet potato).
Journal ArticleDOI
Localization of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus, Associated with Citrus Huanglongbing Disease, in its Psyllid Vector using Fluorescence in situ Hybridization
TL;DR: These results provide the first in situ demonstration of Las infection in various psyllid organs and tissues and show the near-systemic infection of ACP by Las.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multitrophic interactions of the silverleaf whitefly, host plants, competing herbivores, and phytopathogens.
Richard T. Mayer,Moshe Inbar,Cindy L. McKenzie,Robert G. Shatters,Victoria A. Borowicz,Ute Albrecht,Charles A. Powell,Hamed Doostdar +7 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that certain SLW-virus relationships could be mutualistic, andMultitrophic cascade effects may contribute to the successful eruptive appearance of SLW on various crops, ranking them as a major pest.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improved DNA barcoding method for Bemisia tabaci and related Aleyrodidae: development of universal and Bemisia tabaci biotype-specific mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I polymerase chain reaction primers
TL;DR: Through new sequence generation and comparison to available whitefly mtCOI sequence data, a set of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification primers were identified that are more efficient at amplifying ≈748 bp of the ≈800-bp fragment currently used.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential transcriptional activity of plant- pathogenic begomoviruses in their whitefly vector (Bemisia tabaci, Gennadius: Hemiptera Aleyrodidae)
Xiomara H. Sinisterra,Cindy L. McKenzie,Wayne B. Hunter,Charles A. Powell,Robert G. Shatters +4 more
TL;DR: Interestingly, the difference observed in ToMoV and TYLCV transcripts in the vector parallel observations on the different biological effects of these viruses on whiteflies, i.e. TY LCV, but not ToMov, reduces whitefly fitness.
