Chemistry of south polar snow

TL;DR: The chemical composition of trace impurities present in recent Antarctic snow is reviewed and interpreted in this paper, where it is found that gas-derived ions (SO4, NO3, NH4, Cl) are the major components deposited in central Antarctica, the anions forming the more important fraction.
Journal ArticleDOI

First sulfur isotope measurements in central Greenland ice cores along the preindustrial and industrial periods

TL;DR: In this article, sulfur isotopes of sulfate have been measured in a discontinuous set of polar ice core samples from Summit, central Greenland, covering the pre-industrial (from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century) and industrial (from 1872 to 1969 A.D.).
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of Some Global Volcanic Horizons by Major Element Analysis of Fine Ash in Antarctic Ice

TL;DR: In this paper, the major element composition of tiny glass shards found in these layers was determined and compared with analyses of volcanic ash from known eruptions or from volcanic sources suspected of having produced the fallout.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of nitrogen monoxide emissions from several African tropical ecosystems and influence of season and fire

TL;DR: In this article, NO emission rates from soils were measured for twelve major African ecosystems in four countries (Congo, Niger, Ivory Coast, and South Africa) and within four major phytogeographic domains: the Guineo-Congolese, Guinean, Sahelian, and Zambezian domains.
