Journal ArticleDOI
Vascular complications after orthotopic liver transplantation
TL;DR: Early diagnosis is critical for graft salvage, with surgical intervention the mainstay of therapy for surgical intervention in patients with vascular complications.
Journal ArticleDOI
The APOL1 gene and allograft survival after kidney transplantation.
Amber Reeves-Daniel,John A. DePalma,Anthony J. Bleyer,Michael V. Rocco,Mariana Murea,Patricia L. Adams,Carl D. Langefeld,Donald W. Bowden,Pamela J. Hicks,Robert J. Stratta,Jen Jar Lin,David F. Kiger,Michael D. Gautreaux,Jasmin Divers,Barry I. Freedman +14 more
TL;DR: Kidneys from AA deceased donors harboring two APOL1 risk variants failed more rapidly after renal transplantation than those with zero or one risk variants, and genotyping could improve the donor selection process and maximize long‐term renal allograft survival.
Journal Article
Diagnosis and treatment of biliary tract complications after orthotopic liver transplantation
Robert J. Stratta,R. P. Wood,Alan Norman Langnas,Hollins Rr,Bruder Kj,J. P. Donovan,David A. Burnett,Robert P. Lieberman,Lund Gb,Todd Pillen +9 more
TL;DR: Roux-en-Y choledochocholedochostomy remains a safe and versatile alternative and is the preferred method of reconstruction in select cases and can effectively prevent long-term sequelae after liver transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Results of the double-blind, randomized, multicenter, phase III clinical trial of thymoglobulin versus Atgam in the treatment of acute graft rejection episodes after renal transplantation
Osama Gaber,M. Roy First,Raymond J. Tesi,Robert S. Gaston,Robert Mendez,Laura L. Mulloy,Jimmy A. Light,Lillian W. Gaber,E. C. Squiers,Rodney J. Taylor,John F. Neylan,Robert W. Steiner,Stuart J. Knechtle,Douglas J. Norman,Fuad S. Shihab,Giacomo Basadonna,Daniel C. Brennan,Ernest E. Hodge,Barry D. Kahan,Lawrence Kahana,Steven M. Steinberg,E. Steve Woodle,Laurence Chan,John M. Ham,Robert J. Stratta,Erik Wahlstrom,Kathleen R. Lamborn,H. Rossiter Horn,Hana Berger Moran,Philippe Pouletty,Timothy J. Schroeder +30 more
TL;DR: Thymoglobulin was found to be superior to Atgam in reversing acute rejection and preventing recurrent rejection after therapy in renal transplant recipients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Production and implantation of renal extracellular matrix scaffolds from porcine kidneys as a platform for renal bioengineering investigations.
Giuseppe Orlando,Alan C. Farney,Samy S. Iskandar,Sayed-Hadi Mirmalek-Sani,David C. Sullivan,Emma C. Moran,Tamer Aboushwareb,Paolo De Coppi,Kathryn J. Wood,Robert J. Stratta,Anthony Atala,James J. Yoo,Shay Soker +12 more
TL;DR: Investigations show that pig kidneys can be successfully decellularized to produce renal ECM scaffolds, which maintain their basic components, are biocompatible, and show intact, though thrombosed, vasculature.
