Mangrove Production and Carbon sinks: A revision of global budget estimates
Steven Bouillon,Alberto Borges,Edward Castañeda-Moya,Karen Diele,Thorsten Dittmar,Norman C. Duke,Erik Kristensen,Shing Yip Lee,Cyril Marchand,Jack J. Middelburg,Victor H. Rivera-Monroy,Thomas J. Smith,Robert R. Twilley +12 more
TL;DR: The unaccounted carbon sink is conservatively estimated at 112 ± 85 Tg C a 1, equivalent in magnitude to 30-40% of the global riverine organic carbon input to the coastal zone as mentioned in this paper.

Restoration of the Mississippi Delta: Lessons from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita
John W. Day,Donald F. Boesch,Ellis J. Clairain,G. Paul Kemp,Shirley Laska,William J. Mitsch,Kenneth Orth,Hassan Mashriqui,Denise J. Reed,Leonard A. Shabman,Charles A. Simenstad,Bill J. Streever,Robert R. Twilley,Chester C. Watson,John T. Wells,Dennis F. Whigham +15 more
TL;DR: Science must guide MDP restoration, which will provide insights into delta restoration elsewhere and generally into coasts facing climate change in times of resource scarcity.
Different kinds of mangrove forests provide different goods and services
TL;DR: The goods and services that mangrove forests provide to society are widely understood but may be too generally stated to serve as useful guidelines in decision-making as mentioned in this paper, and understanding the differences between fringe, riverine and basin forests may help to focus these guidelines and to determine the best use of a particular forest.
Book ChapterDOI
Carbon sinks in mangroves and their implications to carbon budget of tropical coastal ecosystems
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors estimate that about 50% of terrigenous materials delivered to the world's oceans are delivered through just twenty-one major river systems and that 70% of this C occurs in coastal margins from 0° to 10° latitude.
